...and I mean the color green---that's the color for Kristin's Summer of Color this week, and it just so happens that green is one of my favorite colors. Most often you'll see some kind of green in my artwork, and there is such a wide spectrum of this color to choose from. So I went through my papers and picked some of my favorites--I have lots and lots of green papers--
As soon as she told us the color for this week--an idea just popped into my head instantly, and I knew that I was going to cut narrow strips of these papers to do this--
And then I knew that I wanted to add a big flower onto this with texture, but I wasn't quite sure of what texture I wanted, and within no time I thought of corrugated cardboard!
...and for the center of the flower I wanted more texture again, but this time I decided to use some Liquitex glass bead gel.
It's very very hard to get a good photo of this, but in real life, it has a crystal-like finish to it when it's dry because of the tiny glass beads in the gel--it's great!
And then I just added the finishing touches--
This piece came together so easily for me--it pretty much told me what to do with each step--I love when art comes together like this!

And on a final note about Leo--thank you, thank you, thank you everyone for all of your kind words---they REALLY helped me. I said goodbye to Leo last Wednesday, and I brought him back home with me (OH-- that was tougher than going to the Dr.'s) and he's now in a special place in our backyard---his most favorite place in the world when he was alive and healthy. I'll miss Leo--he was such a sweetie!
And on a final note about Leo--thank you, thank you, thank you everyone for all of your kind words---they REALLY helped me. I keep seeing corrugated card in art. Maybe it's because I have some I recently saved from some packaging. I'm just waiting for the right moment to come along to create something!

Oh I love green too and I just adore what you accomplished with your materials! The finish does look great, I have never tried that medium but I will definitely have to give it a shot!

Oh Diane, I have tears thinking about you & your little Leo. I know it was so hard to do, but like you said, now he is with you in your heart and in the beautiful place at your home he loved to be. :-)

I love everything about this piece! I almost ordered some of that glass bead stuff but my total was too high so I had to delete it from my cart. :( I hope to try it eventually.

What a great idea! Scapbook paper always comes 12x12 now and I started back when it was still 8-1/2 x 11 so I always cut it down to fit my albums so I have a big box of the strips cut from the side. I need to try it for backgrounds! Thanks for sharing.

Oh my I have not been by in awhile. so sorry about Leo. My cats are all in one spot in the garden and I love going by there and thinking of them. Sending healing thoughts to Bob. Green is such a healing color so hopefully it will give you some peace and healing. Sending you a big hug!

this is a beautiful piece, I love the use of the corrugated card. I am more of a textile artist an am just starting out on the 'paper' road, there are so many pretty papers out there! And I am so sorry about your pet, it is a sad time.
