This is my Hippie girl with a little updated shabby look, and she's on a 9 x 12 piece of wood--this has to be one of my favorite surfaces to work on. I know, I know, you're probabyly wondering where's the humor? I'll get to that in a minute. I was just being a bit nostalgic this week, reliving my teen years. I was what you would call, in my words, a "trendy" Hippie--everybody was. I didn't live in a commune or anything, I just liked to dress like one, because that was the fashion for us teenagers way, way back then, which I'm sure irritated the heck out of the authentic Hippie. They became mainstream--they became part of "the Establishment", which was their main reason for being. They wanted to change the Establishment.
So now comes the giggle/laughter part. They had alot of sayings, like "Make love, not war", "Tune in, turn on, and drop out", and one of my favorites was "Don't trust anyone over 30". So what's their new motto now?
"Don't trust anyone over 90" ??

ReplyDeleteWell of course flower power, and to this day it is hard to do art work without a flower, I like Mama Cass, Bob Dylon, who I stil liten to, becasue we use different words but some of the fears are the same.
ReplyDeleteWe were raising young children, worry about going to Viet Nam, friends going, and I recall the feeling so well as I sit here now.

ha! i was but a wee one in the seventies, but i still had my favourite red suit with flowers embroidered up the outside legs and sleeves - they dont make em like that anymore!!! and having two older sisters always helped as they were always dressing me up in the latest hippy stuff!!!

OK, cute stuff, how did you get my photo with the old gizzard not trusting anyone over 90? I resemble that and I do remember the slogan "over 30". That being said, you work is beautiful! hugs

ReplyDeleteThis hippie girl is fabulous. I just love the way you paint your faces--so dreamy. I love the way to you the hair too. You must do a Youtube for all of us hair-challenged face drawers!! I am not sure if Wyanne still does a class but is for the pure beginner for sure which was good for me at the time.

Oh I loved the funny picture!! I think I was the same type of hippie girl, and I still loved the era and the clothes, some of them, in some ways I am still that girl inside :D I just thought your girl was brilliant!!!! Love her so much!!!
