A Fun Little Technique

I've been adding on to my patchwork colleciton--

These are 4 x 12 wrapped canvases,  which I also found at Jo Ann's when I was there.  It was a  pack of 3, so I'm  making another one also.  The technique I wanted to show you is on this one--


The flowers are made from  Golden's soft molding paste--


But I actually talked about this technique here.  What I wanted to show you was this one--


I started out by applying this to the spots that I wanted to apply the beads--


Crystal Lacquer--it's just like Diamond Glaze, but I like it alot better.  You don't get the tiny air bubbles like you do with the Diamond Glaze. If you've never used it  before, the results end  up being like the  2 part resin.  It has a very glassy, dimensional look, and it's an excellent adhesive. Also, if you apply multiple layers, it will get more dimensional looking.  Which is what I did--


It was still wet here when I took these photos, but  it does dry clear, which takes a couple of hours to be completely dry. I squeeze a small amount on the surface, add whatever to it, and then keep repeating the process until I'm satisfied.  I haven't done this in a while. It's also fun when you're collaging and want to scatter things--I've used buttons, old jewelry pieces, anything!  It's nice to use for small projects.  I've  never actually used the 2 part resin--has anyone?  It looks a bit tricky.

    I think I have some of that crystal lacquer, but haven't used it much, except once to embed objects in bottle caps. I have never used the resin, but my art buddy Dana has. You have to be careful about mixing it, as some of hers didn't come out of the molds because she didn't get enough of one of the parts.

    I love how you are experimenting with different materials. The results on your canvas is awesome.

    THIS IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! I could see a Suzi face in the center of one of these beautiful collages with flowers all around. I do have a face that is adnered to wood but I haven't gone any further. I'm stuck!

    I'll have to give that stuff a try,I have used diamond glaze but always get air bubbles. Where do you get this stuff?? I love your flower.

    I want to try some of that lacquer. My diamond glaze became solid in the thin nozzle--any idea how to remedy this? I love your flowers. they are great!!

    This sounds fun and I have that crystal lacquer, for some reason I always go for the diamond glaze. I love what you are making they are so beautiful and so creative.

    I am so excited that I visited you today! For one thing, these are both simply gorgeous, but the other reason is that I was looking for a thick resin-type glaze or finish to use over some my paintings. I showed a gallery curator some of my work (we made an appt for a month from now to discuss representation), and he said that he thought some of my pieces lent themselves to a glaze like this. I really didn't know where to start, but now, thanks to you, I do! I'm going in search of this substance today. Thank you so much for sharing this product and your lovely new work. Making the flowers sounds fun too.

    Thanks for sharing this technique and resin Diane! I have been wanting ot try that molding paste too...saw it on Suzi's video...so neat!!! Love what you did and will have to buy that crystal laquer. I hate how the Diamond Glaze turns bluish too at times. Thanks!Glad I stopped by...
