I've had to put my online classes on hold for a while so I can get ready for my show next week. However, I'm taking what I've learned so far and putting them in my art pieces. I started this box--
First thing I did was take this old box (you know how I like to take the old and make it new again)
The front of it is perfect--it has a textured design right in the wood already, so all I did was layer some paint on it. And then I made a background from what I learned in Sharon's class--All Norah's Art.
Then I transfered the inkjet copy of this castle, which is another technique that I learned from her class. I actually like to do inkjet transfers better than the toner copies. I seem to get less of the fuzzies. I found this free image on Artefacts blog. Actually, it wasn't the main image--it was in the background, but it's what I was looking for. This is a great blog with alot of vintage free images--just click on the name. The reason, I wanted to use this castle-like image, is that I wanted to keep up with the Tudor theme that I'm learning in Suzi's class.
When I was creating this face, I was also watching the lesson of Suzi's, and she was well into her painting when she decided to change the features of her face, because she knew they weren't right--so she fixed them. Well, I wasn't liking my nose (I'm having SO much problems with these noses at this angle!) I watched how she did her corrections, and I followed along, and now I'm happier with the nose. Normally, I would have been afraid to do this, but I just watched her and I was able to do it!
So this is Mother's Day weekend in the U.S., and I hope everyone has a wonderful day on Sunday. Our weather isn't looking too promising, but it's Spring, and that's all that matters! So happy Mother's Day everyone!!
This is really gorgeous Diane, and my favorite color! I love the look of the paint over the texture on the front, and how you can see the sheet music. I think you face is incredible!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments, and a beautiful Happy Mother's Day to you!
Great nose! : ) Noses are always so hard and you did it on an angle. I too love to make new out of old...giving it a second life I call it : )

ReplyDeleteShe beautiful Dianne!!! love the colors. Her face is very pretty. When I do a nose I line up the end of the nostrils with the the beginning of the eyes and the ends of lips with beginning of iris and the its seems to fall into place if it doesn't look right to me I look at it in a mirror and it will show me my mistakes. I cant believe your show is so close. I believe you will do well your work is amazing -Have a beautiful Mothers day. Sincerely, Jonny

Beautiful, I love it! The face, the hair, the castle...Gorgeous! I have always dreamed about going to Europe and getting my picture taken in front of a castle wearing a princess gown and that's what this box reminds me of. :)
ReplyDeleteWould you recommend Sharon's class? It's one I've thought would be fun to take. Happy Mothers Day to you.

Hey Diane,
ReplyDeleteI will let you know how I like it. I am sure I will because I am kinda into that messy graffiti look right now. I am actually a bit weary of the Tudors but I do love to watch Suzi create her girls.
Beautiful box and so nice to have that texture already there for great look. A great nicely done face also and it is nice that you use all the learned techniques.
ReplyDeleteI do also and then I find one I forgot and that is why something doesn't look exactly right. So the push is on to get some new things done for the up coming show.
Wishing you days with no interruptions.
It's absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDiane I love this box !! I have to go find myself a box, that would be so great

ReplyDeleteDiane - really a great work of art. Thanks for the like to the other blog. Love her face. Love the texture of the box. Just down right love everything about it! Hugs (Oliver, Larcy and I are headed to 5 Guys Burger place tonight.... Oliver gets to ride in the convertible for his top down ride of the year! LOL)
ReplyDeleteDiane, your box is really lovely. Her nose looks really good to me.
ReplyDeleteI am not so good at the nose.
I love Suzi's classes too, she is really good at showing what to do.
I love the look of your blog.
Diane, it's wonderful! I love how you are incorporating things from your classes into your work! I have only just started the Piety & Passion- thank goodness we have all summer! You did a lovely job on the 3/4 view and her nose is perfect. I love your work, you are so very talented- everything you make is exceptional and inspiring! Thanks also for the link- going to check it out now. Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI'm so far behind in looking at your blog. I've been away too long and am slowly trying to catch up.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I am in awe of your mixed media pieces, but this one is even more special because of the face you have drawn on the box. It's always good to apply what you've learned. It often means as much to the teacher as the student. I've tried ink jet transfers and without the special paper you need, I never have any luck. Glad you do.
Happy Mother's Day and good luck with the show next week.
she is gorgeous Diane....great job...I've only done two sketches and don't like em now...have yet to go back to them or start another...and I'll admit I've been really bad with suzi's class not really watching/practicing....take care
ReplyDeleteHow pretty and fun! And I love that its functional art as well. Good luck with your upcoming show!~
