I'm Seeing Red (in a good way)...and Meet the Finches

This  week  it's  Red  at  Kristin's Summer  of  Color.   This  has  been  really  fun,  and  even  though  I'm  very  busy  getting  ready  for  my  upcoming  show  season,  I've  been  able  to  make  these  pieces  and  plan  on  taking   them  with  me  to  my  shows.   As  a  matter  of  fact,  I  finally  had  my  first  one  for this year  on Saturday  (more  about  that  later).   My  point  is--is  that  I  was  in  a  hurry  this  week,  because  I  was  getting  ready  for  it  and  also  getting  ready  to  leave  since   it   was  out  of  town.  This  piece  just   came  together  for  me  very  easily--I  think  mainly  because  I  didn't  have  time  to  over think--I  just  did  it--

This is  what  came  to  mind  when  Kristin  told  us  the  color  was  red---heart  and  home--so  I  just  went  with  it...

...and  the  other  prompt  she  suggested  was  incorporating  wings  of  any  kind  into  our  piece...butterflies---again,  my  first  thought...

...and  of  course...some  embellishments

And  they  all  came  together  on  another  one  of  my  favorite  surfaces--these  very  deep  wrapped  canvases  that  I  find  at  Dick  Blick ( which  I've  mentioned  before,  and  probably  will  again)  --the  sides  are  over  2  inches  deep--wonderful!

....and  here  are  the sides--

I  love  that  you  can  make  the  sides  a  piece  of  artwork  in  themselves  or  you  can  just  extend  the  art  that  you  have  on  the  front.
So  once  again--thank  you   Kristin  for  having  this  very  fun  weekly  prompt,  and  it's  never  too  late  to  join  in  on  the  fun--head  on  over  to  Kristin's  to  check  out  all  of  the  other  red  art!

And  like  I  said--I  had  my  first  show  on  Saturday---here  I  am  all  fresh  and  ready  in  the  morning  waiting  for  the show  to  start--

...after  about  an  hour...I  was  all  wilted--it  was  SO  extremely  HOT.....however....that  didn't  keep  the  crowds  away--

This  is  a  great  little  community  where  the  residents  support  their  town,  and  they  always  come  out  for  this  show...not  to  mention  their  support  for  us  artists  with   their  appreciation  and  also  their  purchases.   It's  just  a  great  show  that  I  really  enjoy  being  a  part  of.

And  here  they  are--the  Finch  family--all  5  of  them  (yep...all  5  eggs  hatched!)

Their  names  are  Scott,  Nick,  Lisa,  Jennifer,  and  John....and  by  some  strange  coincidence..that  happens  to  be  the  name  of  MY  kids  too!!

  1. Oh, you're so cute, Diane, behind your stand. :) And wow! What a coincidence that the bird would name her kids the same as you! That's Karma I tell you. :))

And what a wonderful red piece. I first thought it was 3 different project but all in one makes it even more grand. Awesome!

  11. Love your rd piece. I like the deeper canvases too! I have thought about shows but don't think I am ready yet. I have a finch family that has had their second brood this year that I have been tracking on my blog. I would be these 4 will fly within the next few days. Wonder if there will be a third?

  12. Loved seeing you set up at the show. You look so lovely. I didn't see the name of the town where the show was held. Curious, since you remember I'm from Ohio. Bet you did really well.

  13. I appreciate that worn look with the background red, I always like what I think I see and then how artfully someone has done the work on a piece. You do things artfully BTW.
Such tiny birds, but then Finches are not that big. I just read that hummingbird egs are the size of a pea. Makes sense I think.

You're looking pretty at your booth, and yes it is so hot these days in July. Great looking display

    Stay fresh and artful

  18. I bet you were as fresh as the crowds at the end of the day. No one noticed that you were wilted, I'm sure.

That red assemblage is wonderful. I'm always in awe of your art on canvas and this one is no exception. And, I'm sure it will be a good seller at your next craft fair, too.

At least you won't forget the names of the new members of the finch family!
