Finally--2 New Pieces for Etsy, and About Resolutions

Well--kind  of  new.  I'm  taking  images  of  my  artwork  and  making  new  art  pieces  out  of  them.   This  is  something  that  I  just  started  in  2010  and  shared  with  all  of  you.  I  know  it's  nothing  new  to  do  this,  but  it  was  for  me! 

And  what  else  did  I  learn  in  2010?   I've  learned  that  I  actually  enjoy  writing,  and  just  like  anything  else,  the  more  you  do  it,  the better  you  get  at  it.   I  rather  enjoy  sitting  down  and  writing  about  my  everyday  happenings,  even  if  no one's  reading.  

And  I  also  learned  that  I  love  to  draw  faces  and  really  enjoy  making  whimsical  sun faces,  and  that  other  people  like  them!

So  I  took  these  2  very  popular  guys--

And  made my  new  pieces  starting  with  reversed  8 x 10 gallery  wrapped  canvases  to  make  shadowboxes (something  that  I  love  to do)

And   then  I  decreased  my  art  images  and  put  them  on  5 x 7 canvas panels--

And  made  some  embellishments  with  chipboard flowers  and  wooden  hearts--












Assembled  them,  and  added  even  more  embellishments--buttons  and  vintage  spools

These  spools just  arrived  in the  mail the  other  day from a  very  sweet  lady--a customer of mine who had the good sense to save these--thanks Cyndee!

Okay,  so  about  New  Year's  Resolutions--I  usually  don't  do these,  because  as  we  all know,  we  usually break  them,  but  I  do  have  one  for  this  year--I  am  going  to  appreciate  every  day.  I  know  this  sounds  silly,  but  I  tend  not  to  do  this.  For  instance--it's  January,  and  ALWAYS  in  January  and  February  I  complain  about  the  weather  and  can't  wait  until  Spring,  and  then  Spring  comes  and  I  wonder  what  happened  to  the  time.   So  I  WILL  appreciate  every  day,  even  if  I  have  a  dentist  appointment--I  WILL  appreciate  that  day  too.

Oh  and  one more  resolution--this  is  the  year  that  I  will organize  my  house.   Get  rid  of  the years  of  accumulation--I  was  destined  for  a  Hoarder's  episode.   As  a  matter  of  fact,  I've  already  started  a  little  bit,  and  I  love  that  feeling  of  letting  go  of  worthless objects.   What  are  you  doing  in  January   that  makes  you  happy??

Still On The Go...but...A Little Time For Art

Yes  we've  still  been  busy  here  on  the  go  every  day--had  to  hit  the  stores  after  Christmas  (sales  are  too  good  to  pass  up),  visiting  family,  and  yesterday  we  were  here--

in  Cleveland  at  the  Rock  and  Roll  Hall  of  Fame.   We  always  go  here  every  couple  of  years,  and  they're  in  the  process  of  re-designing  it,  and  the  changes  are  good.   I  like  the  way  they  span  over  the  years,  (from  the  50's  till  now), but  mix  them  together  to  keep  the  interest  of  any  age  group.   And   they  always  have  the  top  2  floors (the peak part--it's  so  neat  inside--picture  taking,  not  allowed)  dedicated  to  one  artist  for  about  6  months  or  so.   This  time,  as  you  can  see,  it's  Bruce  Springsteen--not  a  big  fan  of  his--sorry.  It's  a  very  interesting  place  even  if  you're  not  a  big  rock  and  roll  fan--but  we  are--so  we  love  it!

BTW--look  at  the  snow--hardly  any--what's  with  that?  I think  they're  the  only  place  that  didn't  get  that  much.

BUT.....I've  been  able to make  a  little  time  for  art.   Here's  a  sneak  peek--

So Do You Want to See What I Got For Christmas?

First  of  all  I  hope  everyone  had  a  wonderful  Christmas.  We  sure did,  but  I  must  say  that  I'm  a  bit  exhausted.

And  now  let  me  talk  about  my   favorite  Christmas  present.   I've  mentioned  in  passing  ever  since  I  first  found  about  this,  that  I  would  really  like  it,  but  I  didn't  think  that  anyone  was  really  listening.........but  you  know  what?  they  were!

And  it  continues  on  for  a  total  of  359  more  pages.

Is  this  not  the  best!!   I  can  flip  through  actual  pages  of  a  journal  that  was  created  by  me  and  no one  else.  So although  I  did  not  make  an  actual  art  journal  in  2010-- I  really  did!  And  now  when  I'm  doing  something  in  my  room  and  want  to  re-create  a  technique  that  I  did  on  my  blog,  I'll  have  this  source  of  reference  right  at  my  fingertips.  This  is volume 1--it  covers  the  first  complete  year  of  my  blogging--here's  hoping  that  there  will be  many  more  volumes  to  come.   I  would  advise  anyone  to  get  this--it's  great!!

And  now  that  all  of  the  gift  giving  has  come  to  an  end,  I  can  show  you  a  couple  of  presents  that  I  gave  to  my  daughter  and  son-in-law.  I  didn't  want  to  put  these  on  my  blog  before--just  in  case  anyone  in  the  family  saw  them.

The  first  one  was  created  by  Rebecca  from  Penny  Lane  Ink.   If  you're  not  familiar  with  her  art,  then  you  must  go  to her  blog  and  view  it!

This   is  Marc,  Jen  and  of  course---Bob!    Along  with  her  very  cool  art,  she  also  does  custom  portraits  in  her  very  unique  style.  You  can  find  out  about  it  at  her  Etsy  shop.

And  speaking  of  Bob,  look  at  what  he  gave  his  Mom  for  Christmas--

He  contacted  Kelly  after  he  saw  the  beautiful  pendants  that  she  made  me.   He  knew  that  his  Mom  would  love  this.   Kelly  will  make   these  personalized  pendants  for  anyone--and  all  you  have  to  do  is  go  to  her  Etsy  shop  as  well.   The  wonders  of   today's  technology--all  I  had  to  is  email  these  photos  to  Rebecca  and  Kelly.   So  it  goes  without  saying  that  Jen  and  Marc  really  loved  their  Christmas  presents!

And  there's  one  more  thing  that  I  wanted  to  talk  about--Lovey!   She  was  guest  curator  at  Crescendoh.com  this  last  week,  and  each  day  she  featured  2  blogs.   Well  today,  mine  was  one  of  the  blogs  that  she  featured.   I  just  want  to   thank  this  special  lady  for  including  me  with   all  of  the  other  very  creative  blogs  that  she  featured--seriously-- these  are all  wonderful  artists.   And  I  want  to  congratulate   Lovey  for  being  published  in  the  latest  issue  of  Sew  Somerset--her  art  is  as  special  as  she  is!

My Favorite Ornaments

Yesterday  we  put  up  our  Christmas  tree!!   We  always  wait  about  a  week  before  to  do  this,  mainly  because  we  use  a  real  tree  (much  under  the  protest  of  my  husband,  but  sorry--majority  rules),  and  I  just  like  to  wait--I  love  the  feeling  a  Christmas  tree brings,  and  I  don't  want  to  lose  it  by  putting  it  up  too  soon.

And  through  the  years,   I've  accumulated  MANY  ornaments  with  sentimental  value to them,  but  there's  no  way  that  they'll  all  fit  on  one  tree,  so  I  have  to  just  pick  my  favorites,  and  what  else  would  that  be, but  the  ones  that  my  kids  made  for me  when  they were children  in  school.  And  out  of  this  group,  I  have  to  choose  which  ones  I  want  to  hang.   So  let  me  formally  introduce  you  to  my  kids  from  oldest  to  youngest.

This  is  Scott--

I'm  not  sure,   but  I  think  he  was  in  4th  grade  here.  As  you can  see,  he  made  this  very  clever  wreath  made  out  of  yarn.  : )  He's  now  34.

And  then  there's  Nick--

I'm  pretty  sure  this  is  a  reindeer  face (see  the red  nose?)  --so  he's  the  reindeer.  It's  1988  so  this  would  put  him  in  4th  grade.   I've  talked  about  Nick  before  on  my  blog--he's  now  32.

And  now,  here's  Lisa  (the  sassy  one  of  the family)--

This  cute  little  heart  is  from  1987-- would  put her  in  first  grade.   And  she's  now  29.

And  next  is  Jen--

On  this  Christmas  tree!!  And  she  is  in  Kindergarten  here.  She's  now  27.

And  finally,  my  favorite  ornament  on  the  whole  tree--John's

So  let  me  explain  a  little  bit  about this  one.  As  you  can  see,  this  Kindergarten  photo  session  was  not  a  pleasant  experience  for  him.  (in the  actual photo, his nose is  red  from the tears).  But  I  didn't  have  the  heart  to  make  him  go for  a  retake,  because  the  first  time  was  so  traumatic  for  him.  And  to  this  day,  we  have  no  idea  why,  including  John.   So  when  Christmas  time  came  around,  the  teacher  got  out  all  of  the  students'  class photos  so  they  could  make  their  ornaments  for  their  parents.   And  when  he  gave  this  to  me  on  Christmas  morning,  he  was  so  proud  and  happy  of  his  present--his first  one   that  he  made  all by  himself  and  wrapped  it  too.  And  I  was  very  proud  and  happy  to hang  it  on  the  tree (and  still am)!  And  this  baby  of  the  family  is  now  23!

So  here  they  all  are  last  year  on  Christmas  Eve  in  front  of  their  red  felt  stockings  with  their  names  in  glitter  that  they  each  received  the  year  they  were  born--

They  would  be  so  mad  if  I  didn't  hang  these  stockings  every  year.  It's  their  favorite  part  of  Christmas--yes  Santa  still  fills  them  every  Christmas.

I  still  can't  believe  that  they  let  me  take  this  Brady  Bunch  pic!!

So  from  my  family  to  yours--Merry  Christmas!!

Slowly But Surely

My  Santas  are  appearing!

Love this Santa and Angel--nice and tall--at  least  12 inches high.

My  husband  is  a longtime  devoted  Cleveland  Brown  fan!

So  these  are just the tip of the iceberg--there's more waiting to come out---yes,  I'm  still decorating  my  house.  You  see the problem  is my house itself--its'  been  so  neglected (I  really  feel  bad  for it) I'm  trying  to  clean  as  I  go, and that's  what's  taking me so  long.  I  keep  thinking--why clean it--it's   just  going  to  get  dirty  again--so it's  taking  me  a  looooong  time.

But  before  I  get back  to  my  house,  I  want  to  make sure  that  I  thank   Theresa  for  adding  me  to  her  Etsy  treasury--this  is  so  cool  Theresa!!

And  also,  you  may  have  noticed  on my  sidebar  the One  World  One  Heart  Event  Button.  I  didn't participate  last  year, but  I  sure  am  this  year--a wonderful  way  to  meet  bloggers  all  over  the  world,  because  this  event  is  Huge.  So  go  check  it  out  here--2011  will  be  the  last  year  for  it.

More Sharing--Art and a Giveaway--And A New Etsy Listing

So  still  no  new  art  but  I do  have  more  art  that  I  can  share  with  you,  just  not  my  own .  To  start,  I  collect  Santas,  and  every  year  I'll  acquire  a  new  one,  and  this  year  I  found  one  from  one  of  my   favorite  bloggers--Heather  from  Audrey  Eclectic--

Don't  you  just  love  him?!   I've  been  trying  to  get  out  my  other  Santas  for  the  Holiday  season,  and  at  the  rate  I'm  going,  I'll  be  finished  decorating  sometime  in  January--maybe  even  February.   I'll   start  decorating  the  house,  and  then  I'll  get  side-tracked,  but  I'm  working  on  it.  Back  to  Heather's  Santa---he  most  definitely  belongs  here,  and  when  he  meets  the  other  Santas,  he'll   feel  right  at  home.  Make  sure  to   go  visit  Heather--if  you've  never  been  to  her  blog,  then  you're  in  for  a  treat.

Plus,  I've  added  a  new  item  to  my  Etsy  shop.  Last  week  I  had  my  first  sale  (thanks  Debby!)   It  was  my  Hippie  necklace,  so  I'm  putting  a  new  one  in  my  store.  This  one's  a  bit  different  than  the  last  one--

It's  on  a  linked  glass  bead  necklace  that  attaches  in   the  front  with  a  toggle  clasp.   This  little  Hippie  girl  and  her  friend  on  the  reverse  side   sure  are  getting  around.   I  can't  wait  until  everything  calms  down  so  I  can  explore  the  jewelry -making  world  more.   And  remember--everything  in  my  Etsy  shop  is  15%  off--the  code  word  is  CHRISTMAS.

Art To Share

I  really  haven't  had  much  time  for  art  lately,  and what  little  time  that  I  do  have  has  been  going  to  a  project  that  I'm  working  on.   But  I  don't  really  want  to  talk  about  it  until  all  is  said  and  done.

However,  I  still  wanted  to  share  some  art  with  you--other  people's.    I've  actually  won  a  couple  more  giveaways  a  while  back,  but  I  haven't  had  time  to  do  anything  with  them  yet......till now.   And  I  feel  that  they  need  a  little  air  time  along  with  their  creators.

This  first  one  I  won  from  Mandy  from  Bijou's  Whimsy.  This  is  an  original,  and  it's  so  wonderful  in  person,   and  fits  in  so  well  in  my  art  room.

I  love  the  detail  in  this  piece.  Mandy  is  so  talented--make  sure  you  visit  her  blog  to  see  more!

And  the  next  one  is  so  fun.  It's  from  Gloria  from  Viva  La  Vida.  This  summer  she  challenged  herself  to  create  a  face  a  day  for  40  days  straight.  Women  of  the  Unibrow  (love  it!)  She's  a  big  Frida  fan.  Each  lady  had  a  story  and  she  related  each  of  their  story  in  first  person.   There  were  times  when  she  was  struggling  a  bit  with  this  challenge,  but  she  pushed  on,  and  finished  it (6 days early actually!   And  now  she  has  this  wonderful  and  colorful  collection  of  lovely  ladies,  each  with  their  own  personality,  but  with  one  thing  in  common--their  unibrow!   So  when  she  was  finished,  she  gave  away  8 (I  believe)  prints  of  them,  and  the  winners  had  their  choice.  I  chose  Tween--I  love  her  and   her  attitude!

So  of  course,  you  must  go  over  and  visit  Gloria's  blog,  and  see  the  rest  of  the  ladies--just  one  thing----Gloria  where  are your  ladies?!  The  other  day  when  I  was  there,  they  were  in  a  slide  show  on  your  sidebar,  but  now  I  can't  find  them  : (     BTW,  not  only  is  she  a  talented  artist,  she  also  has  a  way  with  food--I  know  this  by  just  the  way  she  talks  about  her  cooking.   I  want  her  to  cook  for  me!

So  now,  these  neglected  pieces  are  finally  in  their  home  just  hanging  out  with   the  rest  of  the  art  world  that  happens  to  be  in  my  studio--

Look  at  how  my  wall  of  art  is  growing!!

Okay,  now  I  have  to  talk  about  Zinnia  again  who  started   Roses  On  My  Table.  I  talked  about  this  ning  group  before--I  can't  recommend  it  enough,  and  the  R.A.I.L.  group  there  is  excellent!   Well  Zinnia  also  has  a  you  tube  channel,  where  she  is  very  generous  in  sharing  her  art  techniques.   The  one  she  put  up  last  week  was  all  about  sketching  a  face.  But  the  way  she  breaks  it  down  is  so  good.  This  is  so  perfect  for  the  beginner  or  anyone  for  that  matter.  She  starts  out  by  saying  that  the  human  face  is  just  a  bunch  of  circles--it's  magical  how  she  transforms  these  circles!  And  check  out  how  she  shades  with  the  paper  stump  and highlights  with  the  kneaded  eraser--I  love  it.
