Recycled Art With a Function

That's  what  I've  been  doing  these  days--taking  my  art  and  making  some  new  art  from  it.  A  couple  posts  back  I  talked  about  my  latest  poppy  painting,  but  I  didn't  stop  there--I  made  another  one--

 

 

And  since  I  had  another  show  to  get  ready  for,  I  decided  to  do  more  with  these  poppies,  and  something  that  I  knew  would  appeal  to  shoppers--

 

 

 

What  else?--but  a  mirror--always  a  favorite  of  the  customers.   But  I  didn't  stop  there  with  these  pretty  flowers--

 

 

.....a  new  box--not  only  are  these  art  pieces,  but  like  the  post  title  says--they  have  a  function  to  them,  which  people  appreciate.

 

So  then  I  went  back  into  my  'archives'  of  art  and  found  this  piece--

 

 

.....thinking  about  a  mirror  again...

taking  little  snippets  and  making  a  new  scene...

 

 

 

--and  even  the  sun  is  from  another  art  piece  of  mine  that  I  made  a  while  back.

 

So  I  took  all  of  those  pieces  with  me  this  last  weekend  to  my  show,  and  I'm  happy  to  say  that  they  all  SOLD!   Even  these  2--

 

 

 

So  happy  to  know  that  these  have  all  found  their  homes.

 

NOW--time  to  get  back  to  my  studio--one  more  show  for  this  season!

29 Faces 12

So  these  faces  are  oldies  but  goodies,  and  I've  turned  them  into  an  all  new  piece  of  art.   They  started  out  here--

 

 

 

....on  a  table top  that  I  painted  a  little  over  2  years  ago.   The  piece  sold,  but  I'm  so  glad  that  I  took  photos  of  it.   I  got  a  close-up  of  the  sun  and  moon--

 

 

....printed  it  out  on  my  printer  to  the  size  I  wanted,  and  made  a  whole  new  little  art  piece  for  day #12--

 

 

 

These  2  are  now  on  a  6 x 6 gallery  wrapped  canvas--I  added  some  stamping,  and  embellishing,  and  finished  it  with  a  cool  little  knob  on  top.

More Journaling, an Early Birthday Present and HEY--Let's All Go To These Fun Places

Yes,  I've  been   playing  around  in  my  journal  again.  It's  so  nice  to  do  anything  that  you  want  and  not  have  to  worry  about  the  outcome,  because  it's  your  journal  and  that's  what  it's  here  for.  Plus,  I  find  that I  discover  something  new  that  I  like  that  I  probably  wouldn't  even  have  tried.  I  love  these  pages--

I  did  alot  of  layering  with  paints,  collage,  sketching  and  doodling--

This  was  fun  to  do---knowing  that  alot  of  it  was  going  to  be  covered  up,  and  deciding  on  what  I  was  going  to use,  and  also  being  willing  to  cover  up  things  that  I  really  liked--

And  what  fun  it  is  to  layer  the  Caran d'Ache watercolor  crayons  with  acrylics--layer  after  layer--

Love  this!!

Already,  I  am  enjoying  looking  through  my  journal,  and  anxious  to  see  what's  next!

Art To Share

I  really  haven't  had  much  time  for  art  lately,  and what  little  time  that  I  do  have  has  been  going  to  a  project  that  I'm  working  on.   But  I  don't  really  want  to  talk  about  it  until  all  is  said  and  done.

However,  I  still  wanted  to  share  some  art  with  you--other  people's.    I've  actually  won  a  couple  more  giveaways  a  while  back,  but  I  haven't  had  time  to  do  anything  with  them  yet......till now.   And  I  feel  that  they  need  a  little  air  time  along  with  their  creators.

This  first  one  I  won  from  Mandy  from  Bijou's  Whimsy.  This  is  an  original,  and  it's  so  wonderful  in  person,   and  fits  in  so  well  in  my  art  room.

I  love  the  detail  in  this  piece.  Mandy  is  so  talented--make  sure  you  visit  her  blog  to  see  more!

And  the  next  one  is  so  fun.  It's  from  Gloria  from  Viva  La  Vida.  This  summer  she  challenged  herself  to  create  a  face  a  day  for  40  days  straight.  Women  of  the  Unibrow  (love  it!)  She's  a  big  Frida  fan.  Each  lady  had  a  story  and  she  related  each  of  their  story  in  first  person.   There  were  times  when  she  was  struggling  a  bit  with  this  challenge,  but  she  pushed  on,  and  finished  it (6 days early actually!   And  now  she  has  this  wonderful  and  colorful  collection  of  lovely  ladies,  each  with  their  own  personality,  but  with  one  thing  in  common--their  unibrow!   So  when  she  was  finished,  she  gave  away  8 (I  believe)  prints  of  them,  and  the  winners  had  their  choice.  I  chose  Tween--I  love  her  and   her  attitude!

So  of  course,  you  must  go  over  and  visit  Gloria's  blog,  and  see  the  rest  of  the  ladies--just  one  thing----Gloria  where  are your  ladies?!  The  other  day  when  I  was  there,  they  were  in  a  slide  show  on  your  sidebar,  but  now  I  can't  find  them  : (     BTW,  not  only  is  she  a  talented  artist,  she  also  has  a  way  with  food--I  know  this  by  just  the  way  she  talks  about  her  cooking.   I  want  her  to  cook  for  me!

So  now,  these  neglected  pieces  are  finally  in  their  home  just  hanging  out  with   the  rest  of  the  art  world  that  happens  to  be  in  my  studio--

Look  at  how  my  wall  of  art  is  growing!!

Okay,  now  I  have  to  talk  about  Zinnia  again  who  started   Roses  On  My  Table.  I  talked  about  this  ning  group  before--I  can't  recommend  it  enough,  and  the  R.A.I.L.  group  there  is  excellent!   Well  Zinnia  also  has  a  you  tube  channel,  where  she  is  very  generous  in  sharing  her  art  techniques.   The  one  she  put  up  last  week  was  all  about  sketching  a  face.  But  the  way  she  breaks  it  down  is  so  good.  This  is  so  perfect  for  the  beginner  or  anyone  for  that  matter.  She  starts  out  by  saying  that  the  human  face  is  just  a  bunch  of  circles--it's  magical  how  she  transforms  these  circles!  And  check  out  how  she  shades  with  the  paper  stump  and highlights  with  the  kneaded  eraser--I  love  it.

Hi Everyone!

Okay  I'll  stop  complaining  now--no  more  shows  this  year.    I'm  actually  looking  forward  to  cleaning  my  house,  and  just  doing  what  I  feel  like  doing.   And  getting  ready  for  the  holidays--piece  of  cake! 

So  about  my  weekend--let  me  take  you  into  my  little  shop- (warning--not  very  clear  photos  ahead--do not adjust your set)

And  the  newest  addition  to  my  shop--a  very  small  jewelry  section--

Okay,  about  the  show.  I've  been  doing  this  show  for years,  and  when  I  first  participated,  it  was managed  by  a  wonderful  promoter  who  brought  in  quality  crafters  and  artists,  and she  kept  this  standard  of  quality  up  the  entire  time  she  ran  it.  Well,  when  she  decided  not  to  do  this  show  anymore,  it  was  taken  over  by  another  promoter (maybe  about  4  years  ago)  who  is  basically  a  businessman-- loosing  sight  for  the  real  reason  to  have  this  type  of  venue--to  promote  the  arts.  These events  to  me  are  special, in  that  a group  of  crafters/artists  come  together  and  offer  their  hand-crafted  art  to  the  public.   Well  unfortunately,  this  show  has  become  a  place  for  retailers  (there  are  still  some  very  good  crafters  and  artists  that  participate,  but  they  are  dwindling).   But  when  you  see  a  booth  that's  10  by  40  feet (that's  4  spaces),  well you know  that  these  "crafters"  are  just  purchasing  they're  wares  and  selling  them--known  as  buy/sell.   Oh  yeah,  anyone  interested  in  gutter  or  window  replacements?--well  you  can  find  them  here.   How  about  Direct  TV?--I  think  they  had  a  show  special  going  on  too!!    And  while  you  were  here,  you  could  also  get  a  subscription  to  the  local  newspaper! 

Well   I'm  happy  to  say  that   the  attendance  was  down (remember  people  have  to  pay  to  get  in).  This  is  the  best  way  to  tell  these  promoters  to  bring  back  the  true  craft/art  show--stop  going  to  these  types of  shows.   Sorry  about  me  ranting,  but  I  just  get  so  mad  about  this!!   So  I'll  let  you  figure  out  if  I'll  be  returning  to  this  "craft"  show  ; )

On  to  a  more  happy  topic.  At  the  end  of  this  week  is  my  first  year  blog  anniversary,  and  you  know  what  that  means--theres'  going  to  be  a  giveaway  so  don't  go  far!!
