For my new technique, well actually it isn't new. I've read it on a few blogs, and Wyanne has showed it on her videos. She is another favorite artist of mine that also offers online workshops--aiiiii (that's a scream)--if only I had the money AND the time for all of these!!! But anyway, it's the alcohol technique--
It's on the background of this paper--here's a closer view--
The best demonstration that I found for this technique is on this you tube video:
The trick is to do it when the paint is still wet, and to make sure that the alcohol is at least 91%
And I also put my paper from my last post on canvas--
This paper was 12 x 12, and I found a 12 x 12 canvas so it worked out perfectly. I wanted to add a little embellishment--
I had this metal heart that I found at Michaels actually (it was on clearance too!), and then I still wanted to add a little dimension, so I had these Stickles that I've had forever but never used them--so I put Stickle dots in places, but I discovered when they dry--they're very glittery--which made me discover that I am not a glitter girl, so I covered them with paint : ) HOWEVER I did like these Stickles--
Distress Stickles -they are the glitter without the glitz. It 's hard to describe and this photo doesn't show them well--
In case you're wondering--I put the Stickles in the center of the flower. They look more glittery in the picture than they really are. I just like the dimension that they give without all that glitz.
I also have a WIP going--
I have a plan for this one--but we all know how that goes. When you have an idea, and it always ends up differently. I can't just sit down with a blank canvas and just create--I've tried--I have to at least have a plan. I know it's more "artistic" to let your muse or whatever take over, but I can't do it that way. So we'll see how this actually turns out.
And this Friday, I am leaving to go to Columbus for a wholesale cash and carry show on Saturday. I'll be one of the shoppers---I usually don't mind crowds, but these wholesale shows are ridiculous--these lady shoppers are on a mission, and you don't want to get in their way. It's mainly for crafts, but I can find supplies that I can use--when I come back I'll show you what I find. After going to these shows, I am amazed at how much retailers mark up these products! What I'm really excited about, though, is that there is a D. Blick store there--I can't wait--I'll show you what I get there too.
And one more thing--I finally saw Alice yesterday--and I LOVED it!! I don't care who you are or what your age is--I just can't see anyone not liking this movie!
And one more thing--Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!! It's a BEAUTIFUL day here today, finally, and I'm going for a walk : D
You sure have been busy, all those classes to take too, sounds like you've got a real addiction going on there lol ;)

The alcohol technique worked because that piece is just simply gorgeous!!! I Hope you had a great St. Patty's Day! : )...can't wait to see how your WIP comes out!
ReplyDeleteGreat 12x12. I just love the composition. And the background looks awesome as well. I took Wyanne's class and I loved it! My favorite of Wyanne's is the plastic wrap on wet color left to dry. It comes out amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love both Alisa and Tracy. Their art always inspires me.
ReplyDeleteYour art is wonderful, too. I am inspired by you, and by the links you provided.
I often use that 91% alcohol. It's one of my favorite tools in my art box. Thanks for reminding me that I need to use it even more than I do, now.
Yes, a wonderful post, lots of good info and of course: your art is lovely! The paper on canvas 12 x 12 is especially nice.
ReplyDeleteI really love how your paper turned out, it deserved it's own canvas.
ReplyDeleteI had seen that alcohol vid before but can't get a hold of that high a proof.
As for artistic methods and muses...
We all work differently, and there is NO right way to work with the muse. Not all muses flow in fairy costumes on light wings... some need to be dragged throuh craggy rocks. lol
As long as we enjoy the PROCESS, it's all good.
Can't wait to see what you do with that lovely background.
sheesh maneesh...how wonderful you are with all your sharing...i thank you IMMENSELY! i so remember long ago starting out with collage and knowing zip, having to dig and travel, just to find the teeniest thing or advice...you are stupendous!
ReplyDeleteyour work is beautiful and i soooo love the blue piece!

Peggy
Goodness. I'm worn out just looking at all this! I love your combo Suzi-Sharon faces, Diane! Best of both worlds it seems. great stuff you do. I really like the way you do the fun hair! Love the hydrangea with the alcohol treatment.
ReplyDeleteMore classes, eh? I checked out those classes you mentioned. I'm not into those graffiti things right now, which is funny, as I love graffiti.
But I AM on the hunt for a new class. Some sort of drawing or painting class.
You packed so much in this post! WOW - love your papers, love it all. Your trip sounds wonderful - D. Blick! wooo hooo! Have fun. Have not seen Alice yet but have plans to!
ReplyDeleteLove love love this technique! I'm so excited about trying it! You sure have been busy creating and your pieces are just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your techniques. And the artwork is all beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours,
Tonya
Fun technique! Thank you for sharing! I love your paintings, too, as usual!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you buy...I love Dick Blick. I wish we had a store close by.
Have a great weekend!
I love the blue hydrangea flowers their beautiful. The alcohol technique is a great idea you always do such neat things, stuff I have never heard of. I have to get to Michaels and get some of these things -on my next pictures I want them to look like old stone plaster- I want to get that clear gesso and I didnt know there was a crackle stamp. I like that mini crackle too thats on old china but can never get it right so I will try some different ideas. Your collage is beautiful you are doing such different and neat things. I always want to run to Michaels for stuff to do- after seeing all your artwork. Thank you for sharing your art and ideas. Have a great day!!! Jonny
