I call these my Garden Girls--
I really love creating these faces and a BIG Thank You to Suzi and Sharon for being my face teachers. I can't believe how much they've taught me and how I continue to learn. And it always amazes me how all of the student art is so unique from one another's . Suzi tells us to copy her, and her videos and pdf's are very detailed, explaining that this is how we learn--to copy. And even though we do "copy" her, it's always our own style, because it's coming from us. Makes sense, everyone is one of a kind--so they're art will be too--it's part of us. This is why we're so protective of it, I think, and probably so overly critical too.
BTW, Sharon is having a new online class, and she is giving a free one away to someone. Just go to this post to enter the giveaway. Hope everyone here in the U.S. is enjoying their Memorial Day holiday. The last 3 day's weather here has been exceptional--I'm loving it!

Hi Diane, Happy Memorial Day to you too! I can see you constantly improving and growing through your "faces". I am going to look into taking a class from these ladies and you are right about everyone having there own style. Copying is how the masters learned and because we are created individuals who create, we will all have our own special fingerprint on everything we do. Music is the same way. If you give ten people the same piece of music to play on the same instrument not any of them will sound exactly alike. Take care and keep on creating!
ReplyDeleteDiane, thank you for stopping by. I am glad you did because now I found another artist whose style I like. I am adding you to my sidebar so I won't forget to visit.
ReplyDeleteI love your faces. Ah, yes, a face class. I need to have classes. I am such a rebel, I don't follow instructions but look at these faces. They have sultry eyes.
I am actually a self-taught oil painter who just started to take up drawing two years ago to post at Illustration Friday. I am starting to store all my series and collections on this blog:

Thank you for visiting. Thank you for saying hello.
I love your style!
Absolutely stunning Garden Girlies, Diane! The second is my favorite ~~ awesome face, shading, flowers, embellies, crackle, just beautiful all around. What have you used to seal these? Awesome art, sweetie, xoxo ~~ Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment on my blog-

Your new girls are simply GORGEOUS and the backgrounds...(sigh... I'm totally in love with them!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLots of love, Sanda xoxo
absolutely love these pieces, your 'faces' are divine! thanks for stopping in to visit and your kind words on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteDiane, these girls are wonderful!! Love the background with those beautiful butterflies. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful Diane! I have a thing for butterflies and I also really like the daisies on the cheeks on the second one. Very nice(O:
ReplyDeleteThese are great faces Diane!
ReplyDeleteIf I took workshops from both these artists, I would be so confused at the end, I would have nothing. Of course, I can't draw, much less draw faces. You, however, have taken what you've learned from both classes, incorporated the two, and created a truly new and unique look and style. I'm really impressed with your art, but, again, I know what a fantastic artist you are.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on both of the paintings. LOVE, LOVE LOVE that top piece!I haven't taken Suzie's latest class. It's on my list to get to though. I really like how you keep true to your own style!
ReplyDeleteyour own style is definitly starting to shine through! love your faces, the top one is my fav, her nose is just so perfect and all the wonderful butterflies. nice work.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the top girl. I am working on something similar for the Inspiration Avenue challenge this week (how does your garden grow). I thought it would be good practice and I've been meaning to paint a girl with flowers in her hair for months.
ReplyDeleteRe your next post... I'm really glad you're sharing your art journal with us and not keeping it in a book all to yourself!! You are so inspiring!
Oh my gosh Diane, your faces are absolutely gorgeous! You can see bits of Sharon and Suzi in them :D Hope I can become half as good as you have become! Thanks for posting about Sharon's upcoming contest and class - I've been busy with several classes, including Suzi's so have been a bit behind on checking blogs!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day,
Beth
