Where I Was on the Weekend and Hope to be Next Year.....and a FREE Tutroial That I Want to Tell You All About!

Before  I  start--thank  you  everyone  for  all  of  your  comments on  my  last  post!  I guess  everyone  loves  to  talk  about  art  supplies  as  much  as  I  do,  and  if  you  ever  want  a  Part  II--let  me  know.  I  did  want  to  answer  one  question.  Katherine  from  Klueless  asked  me  if  you  have  to  store  the pitt  pens  a  certain  way,  and  I  honestly  don't  know.  I  just  put  them  in  a  cup  with  the  tips  down.  I  know  that  you're suppose to  lay  gel  pens  flat  when  you  store  them  (yes,  I  have  them  too).  If  anyone  knows  about  the  pitt pens,  let  me  know.

When   I  was  at  one  of  my  art  shows  during  the  summer,  I  met  a  couple  who  helps  run   a  very popular  Fall  festival  in  Ohio,  and  they  invited  me  to  be  a  part  of  it  next  year.   It's  the  Yankee Peddler  Festival  in  Canal Fulton, Ohio,  and  it's  like  stepping  back  into  time  during  the  1700  and 1800's.  I've  never  really thought  of  applying  for  this  show  mainly   because    it's  3  consecutive  weekends,  which  kind  of  scares  me.  Plus  the  fact--I  didn't  even  know  if  I  would  be  accepted,  because  your  art  or  craft  has  to  fit  into  this  time  era,  and  there's  the  fact   that  you  have  to  construct  your own  wooden  booth,  and  also  your  costume  has  to  be an  authentic  replica  of  the  period.

But  they've  added  on  a  new  part  called  Yankee Peddler Today,  and  that's  where  I  fit  in.  No  wood  booths,  and  any  good  quality  art/craft  is  accepted.  So  they  sent  me  complimentary  tickets,  and  that's  where   we  went   on  Saturday.

It's  set  in  the  woods  on  this  great  campground  site,  which  is  very  large (we  actually  got  lost  a  couple  of  times), and  everything  really  is  authentic  from  the  demonstrations  by  the  artists--

wood carving  and--

 blacksmiths
and  the  arts  and  crafts

Even  the  food  is  prepared  the  way  it  would  have  been  in  the 1800's--delicious!!   Oh  yeah....let's  not  forget  about  the  town  crier  either!

So... this  is  where  I  would  be--

Looks  like  a  regular  craft  show--doesn't  it?  But  hey--it's  right  there  next  to  the  original  show,  and you  get  the  same  traffic,  and it  goes  without  saying--the  quality  of  the  arts  and  crafts  are  excellent.  Maybe  once  I'm  in  the  show,  and  they  look  at  all of  my  display,  they'll  let  me  move  up  to  the  more  "upscale"  neighborhood  : )

So,  when  I  was  there,  I  bought  a  few  things--do  you  want  to  see?   Okay,  I'll  show  you  then!   Well,  whenever  I  go  to  these  festivals,  I'm  always  on  the  lookout  for  anything  with  faces.   I  mentioned  before  that  my  house  is  filled  with  funny  faces  and  odd  characters  (me  being  one  of  them  : )   So  it  was  down  to  a  few  booths--(click  on  them for  the  details)

But  in  the  end  I  decided  on  this  booth.
And  I  purchased  her--
What  would  you  call  her--a  forest  lady?  or  a  fairy?  I'm  not  sure.  I  just  liked  her  very  serene  face,  and  I  decided  to  put  her  amongst  this  motley  group--to   keep   them  in  check.

And  look  at  this  gourd  booth--

Those  giraffes  were  calling  my  name.  Actually,  this   is  a  Christmas  present--

And   I'm  99%  sure  that  she  doesn't  read  my  blog,  but  Lisa,  if  you're  reading  this--Merry  Christmas!

And  one  more  thing--I'm  a  sucker  for  hand  crafted  jewelry,  especially  copper  jewelry-

This  pendant  is  on  a  chunky  20"  brass  chain--I  love  it!!

So  all  in  all,  it  was  a  fun  day,  and  if  everything  goes  right,  I'm  hoping  to  be  in  this  festival  next  year.

Okay...now  the  free tutorial  that  I want  to  tell  you  about.  It's  at  Carrie Joy's  blog.  If  you  aren't  familiar  with  her  work,  then  get  over  there  now!   She  is  truly  a  gifted  artist,  and  whenever  I  visit  her  blog,  I  am  just  blown  away  by  her  talent,  plus  she's  a beautiful  soul--inside  and  out.  Click  here   to  visit  her  blog,  but  also  click  here  for  her  free  tutorial  on  working  with  crackle paste  and  transferring  images.  There  are 10 videos  in  all  that end  up  being over  an  hour  long  class.  The  only  thing  that  she's  asking  for is  a  donation---considering  the  time  it  took her  to  edit  these  videos  and  just  the  time  it  took  to prepare  this  tutorial--that's   more  than  a  fair  request.   So  I  just  want  to say--THANK  YOU  Carrie  for  sharing  your  wonderful  gift  with  us!

P.S.  Don't  forget  about  my  giveaway--I'll  be  drawing  the  name  on  Sept. 23--so  there's  till time  if  you  haven't  entered--go  here.

  3. So interesting to read and see all this, you had a fine time and found great things. You write and show in a very interesting way, it is like seeing you for a few minutes just to share the news in your life.

Did you write about Diamond Glaze at one time? It seems I remember saying you loved it, maybe not.

  6. This looks like one decent show. Reminds me of a Renaissance Fair in a more "modern" time period. Your collection of faces is adorable. I love how you have them displayed. Your house must be a veritable haven for art pieces. Whoever made that necklace, did a great job with the chain. My hand started aching from just imagining the hours it took to hammer that metal.

Now I'm off to check out your link! Thanks in advance.

  10. Congratulation on getting into the three wekend show next year!! You said you didn't know about the crop a dile--it is a really great tool--will punch through paper, as well as wood and metal! Has measurement adjustments on it and sets several different sizes of eyelets. About $34 at Michaels. I did watch Survivor last Wed, but not sure who Jill is yet--I'll look for her.
