So what is my therapy? Well, I'll tell you. Last year I made this one piece that was one of my favorites, and I'm happy to say that it went home with a very appreciative customer. So I decided to recreate it. I started out with one of my favorite surfaces--a discarded cupboard door that I'm sure was headed for the trash if I hadn't rescued it--
This is nice and long and skinny--about 9 x 30 inches--pretty much the same size that I used last year.
And then I did some metal embossing--
This is my version of doodling--very therapeutic to me--
And then for the frame work of the door I had this great gold embossed paper that I purchased from paperarts.com and I painted it with a green metallic paint and wiped some of it off. It's great how the color stays in the embossed parts of the paper.
When I seal it with the gloss varnish, it has the appearance of stained glass. And no matter how many times I do these doors, I can never get over the transformation!
And another form of therapy for me, I found, is my new discovery--making these necklaces, and I'm getting a little creative--
Look at this--I made a double-stranded one! And I've found that there are many possibilities in just linking beads--
And I've barely scratched the surface!
Love it Diane! I too so enjoy painting on doors. Good therapy too if you ask me : )

The door is awesome. It is amazing how you transformed it. I love recycling.
ReplyDeleteThat door is just Beautiful! I just love taking something that someone was going to throw away and doing something with it. A new life. That metal embossing looks hard.
ReplyDeleteawesome door art, diane....watch out the jewelry making will get you....they are beautiful.. ;-)
ReplyDeleteTransformation is certainly the right word, your door transformed is just what it should be. You have a good knowledge of materials, how they work and what can be done with them, it all adds to the beauty of your work and how you put it together. I like the door a lot because it is a piece I would have out all year, that is unless I had a summer angel that was just as beautiful.:>)
ReplyDeleteYour jewelry is professional looking, your heart and mind is very healthy with all this great therapy.

ReplyDeleteHi Diane,
ReplyDeleteYour work is just stunning! Love the transformation of the door and your necklaces are awesome! I agree with it being therapy. I have two passions and that is art and crochet of all things and I am always 'playing' between the two of them. After I saw your stunning necklaces I decided to try my hand at it and would like to know what you think of them. I started a new blog named Endearments which I am dedicating to these two passions and I posted my first pendant on there. Would love to hear what you think of them. You will find the link on my Ansota's Art Journal Blog.
Have a great day and thanks for all the inspiration you so willingly share with all of us!

ReplyDeleteThat transformed door is simply amazing! I am imagining how incredible it would be to do that treatment on the doors of an actual piece of furniture. I love to rescue old furniture and seldom do it any more for lack of space but I would love to try a project like that.
