Bob and Lenny

So  I  figured  it  was  time  for  an  update  on  Bob.  A  couple  of  months  ago  I  blogged  about  his  health  issues--the  problem  that  he  was  having  with  his  leg--long  story  short--cancer.  Well  after  another month or  so of  treating  his  leg  and trying  to  save  it,  the  Dr.  realized  that  it  wasn't  working,  so  after  much  thought,  they  decided  to  amputate  it.   Don't  feel  bad  about  this...feel  happy,  because  now  Bob  is  back  to  his  old  self  again.

By  the  time  they  decided  to  go  ahead  with  this  procedure,  Bob's  whole  demeanor  had  changed  which  was  the  final  thing  that  made  the  Dr.  and  his  parents  realize  that  this  was  his  only  option.   Within  2  days  after  his  surgery  he  was  walking  around,  but  more  importantly,  he  was  happy  again!

Here  he  is  just  last  week  at  the  beach--one  of  his  favorite  places.   My  daughter  says  that  she  forgets  sometimes  that  he  only  has 3  legs  now.   And  now  he  is  a  proud  member  of   the  Tripawd  Community.   As  far  as  the  cancer  goes--they're  going  to  run  some  tests  on  him  next  week  to  see  if  the  rest  of  his  body  is  still cancer-free--he  still  needs  your  prayers.   But  for  now--all  is  well with  Bob  : )

And  now,  another  new  name--Lenny.  I  missed  Leo  very  much,  and  I  knew  that  I  was  going  to  need  a  new  companion,  whom  I  know  Leo  would  have  liked  very  much--Lenny!

This  is  my  new  little  baby,  and  when  I  say  companion,  I  really  mean  it.   I  decided  to  move  my  art  room  into  the  room  where  Lenny  is.  It's  twice  the  size  of  my  original  one,  and  now  I  can  be  with  him  all  the  time--poor  thing--I  can't  leave  him  alone.

Here  he  is  in  his  little  house--actually,  it's  not  so  little--it's  4  foot  across--so  he's  got  lots  of  room  to  play  around  in,  (yes,  I  had  the  camera  right  inside of  the  tank--he probably  was  thinking---NOW  what  is  she  doing?!)  and  it's  right  across  from  my  work  table.   When  I  decided  to  do  this,  I  was  wondering  if  I  would  bother  him  too  much.  I  like  to  play  my  music  kind  of  loud  and  I  like  to  sing  REAL  loud,  but  you  know what??   I  think  he  likes  it!  He  just  watches  me  and  when  he's  ready  to  go  to  sleep,  he  does,  even  if  the  music  is  on.   And  of  course  I'm  always  talking  to  him--he's  a  great  listener.

And  he  loves  to  walk  around  the  "studio"--

He  likes  to  check  out  my  art  supplies---and  he  likes  to  stick  close  to  me--a  definite  Mamma's  boy---I'm  so  glad  about  that!   I'm  just  so  happy  to  watch  him  EAT  and  WALK--something  Leo  couldn't  do  the  last  2  weeks  of  his  life--I  will  never  never  take  his  good  health  for  granted.

So  if  you  weren't  sure  before,  I'm  sure  you  are  now--I'm  the  crazy  turtle  lady...

I  would  never  have  imagined  just  4  months  ago  that  I  would  not  have  Leo  anymore  or  that  I  would  have  a  new  and  improved  art  room  with  a  new  little  companion.   And  one  more  shot  I  have  to  show  you--I've  started  a  new  art  wall  right  above  his  tank,  beginning  with  it  adjacent  to  his  tank---he  loves  looking  at  it--

This  is  the  piece  that  Somerset  published--I  couldn't  have  found  a  more  perfect  place  for  it.   This   little  story  in  my  life  started  out  very  sad  but  came  full  circle  with  a  very  happy  ending!   (Leo  would  have  been  a  great  big  brother)

P.S.  Thanks  to  JulieSharon,  and  this  Ebay  artist,  I  have  a  great  start  for  my  art  wall,  which  I'll  be  blogging  about  in  the  future--thanks  you  guys  for  your  beautiful  art!

  1. This is such a heart warming post, I have been hoping you wouldpost about Bob, I thought of him a couple days ago. Bless his little dog heart and his wellness, so cute going down the beach.

Lenny is handsome and I can also see an art lover. A dear friend of mine turtle sits for her daughter who turtle sits for her school classroom in the summer.
The daughter turned a lonely turtle into a very social one.
I understand your love of turtles.
We see a great commercial where the turtles dislike highspeed internet.

  2. I know you said don't be sad about Bob,but it made me cry. Thats so sad but yes he still looks so happy. Poor guy. And Lenny looks like he's happy too,in his new home. I love the picture of him looking at your art. Maybe you should have named him Picasso, since he loves art. LOL.

  4. Oh Diane what great news! I have been praying for your Bob since the last post and to hear this wonderful news is definitely uplifting today!
How precious is that little Lenny! He looks like a real sweetheart, and although I have never owned a turtle pal I may have to give it some consideration someday.
    Love the art!

  5. Wow! Lots of good news and positivity in this post. Although you are always upbeat, I could simply read the happiness in your voice over both Bob and Lenny, your new love, as well as your new studio. I wondered what had happened to you last week, and now I know it was because you were moving your studio. Would love to see it soon, too!

  11. Good for Bob. My son and his girlfriend just got a Frenchie 2 months ago and poor Dexter has a bad case of allergies to puppy mites. He looks raw and sore but is still growing. I love turtles!! I have seriously considered adopting a desert tortoise. I want to turn my old garden into a tortoise habitat! May be next year.

  14. Hi turtle lady,
my daughter has also two turtles. They are two years old, live in our garden and just fell into hibernation although it is summer here (but the weather is like autumn). I hope they do it in winter again. One sleeps in a daisy and the other one has burrowed approximately 3 inches below the ground. You cannot see her at all. Today I had to see, if she is still alive.
I wish you all the best for your dog.

  15. I used to live on a lake as a kid and raised baby turtles during the summer and let them go in the fall so they could hibernate. They were baby painters, snappers, leatherbacks and musk and mississippi map turtles. Fed them worms, flys, grubs, mealworms and lettuce. they loved sunning themselves on the rocks in the aquarium. They were a blast.

  16. Oooo little Lenny looks totally adorable and perfectly at ease in his new home, as do you Diane. in your new craft room.

It's amazing how we spread out isn't it! About 8 years ago when I first started making a few cards I had a small box in a cupboard for my craft things now a whole room isn't enough haha!

Well now, just look at the lovely Bob! He'll stay in my prayers but he looks so happy I'm sure the Dr will find him cancer free.

    xx

  19. As a dog lover AND a turtle lover, I love this post! Best to Bob. It's actually amazing how many three legged pooches I see. I recently saw one running along his jogging master! They are so resilient and brave and still loving. Bob is adorable.

  23. hooray for Bob! Bostons are such sprightly little dogs. One of my little Bostons is very old and we call her "rickety cricket". Is Bob a Boston or a Frenchie? Either way - hooray for Bob!

  25. Aaaah that is lovely news, pets can make you so happy and are great companions!
It made me laugh looking at Lenny looking at your art, not one of my pets likes mine...well that is a lie they like to eat my paintings. Caught Chip our puppy with a few bits and pieces but somehow it makes it look all the more interesting.
