Lately my art has been very colorful--I've been liking the bright ones lately as you can see. But sometimes I let the piece tell me what color it needs.
In the meantime, I'm always sketching faces just for fun, and I really liked her--
....so I took her out of my sketchbook and put her on a canvas. But she seemed to want a softer palette...so I went with the soft greens and pinks and roses----she had a romantic look to me..
So then I wanted to make a companion piece for her--my painted version of a rose--
I have problems with roses. I tried to copy the look of the roses that are on the sides (these are napkins collaged on), but forget it. It's okay--you get the idea that it's a rose, but it's not what I pictured in my head. Painted roses for me are one of those things that I have to practice, practice, practice at, and I know I could get better.
But I'm happy with the way these 2 compliment each other,
....and for now, I'm sticking with this color palette. Working on more right now.....
great sketch

ReplyDelete:)
Love those soft colors, she's beautiful and your rose is gorgoues!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the color palette and I would have never known you had problems with roses! Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love them Diane!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of doing some rosy things with a pastel palette myself as I want to create a little more calm and peace around my home for the holidays. You have definitely inspired me this morning!

this is lovely, what a beautiful pair,, I love the soft color palette as well, so soft,
ReplyDeleteShe is lovely and I love the softer pallet. I love the brights too, but sometimes a soft look is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this one Diane. I think it is her long neck that makes her so unique. The rose goes perfectly and you really do know how to make it look realistic with all those many layers of petals. All in all, a beautiful piece of artwork!
ReplyDeleteDiane, she's lovely, and I think the rose is so soft and pretty! It reminds me of a rose I found on my plant when we got home last night.
ReplyDeleteReally nice Diane. She looks great in those soft colors, I agree with you, she looks very romantic. I love it that you have companion pieces with a lot of your art.
ReplyDeleteShe is so pretty. I think the soft colors were a wonderful choice. My goodness I love her hair...I wish mine looked like that. :) I hope you are having a wonderful week!!
ReplyDeletei love her.....but i especially like the rose.....beautiful, diane..
ReplyDeleteDiane your work is always so beautiful. I love your sketch A++ ...
ReplyDeleteI love them both ,dear Diane- she is lovely, and love her mouth,- and the rose is so beautiful, too.Maybe you expect something else, but I think it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteHUGS,Dorthe
Love these...and I see a beauty of a rose!!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful, Diane, and the rose, too.
ReplyDeleteYour rose looks like a rose and it is beautiful and there is no reason it needs to look like someone else's rose. That is the beauty of a talent like yours. You have the talent to make your own rules!
ReplyDeleteI like her hair very romantic looking so the rose complements it well...nothing wrong with your rose. I think we should have a feeling of a rose not one that is boring and perfect in every detail..you can have a photograph that does that!
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin your work! These are great pieces!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the sketch, Diane! I also LOVE your loosely painted rose! Having a background in realism painting makes those loose styles very difficult for me to achieve. I'm truly envious!
ReplyDeleteI love these softer tones. Very romantic.
ReplyDeleteYou really found just the right environment for this beautifully haunting girl. Loved watching it evolve as you shared your creative process. Dreamy
ReplyDeleteThis is really so beautiful Diane! The face is amazing....riveting! I love the color version, but I am always attracted to raw versions, and the black and white is stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about roses, sometimes yes sometimes no for me, at times I have to call it a peony
ReplyDeleteThese are great pieces large, ready for Dec. so good . Hope your getting rest. The chair next to me in class does not have anyone. I know in due time. No pushing just missing.
I love this color pallet you are using now.....great sketch....
ReplyDeleteA rose is a rose! Both these pieces are superb. I like this softer pallet and it is a nice diversion from the bright pieces. I'm sure these will sell well, too.
ReplyDeleteNo, I LOVE the rose - the loose strokes and impression of layers - I really love it! And your sketch and the way you incorporated her is just amazing - I want you to know that I look at decorative napkins in a whole new way because of you!
ReplyDeleteStudio day for me too - yeah! Have fun and thanks for your sweet note about K! xoxo
Hi Diane, I love these two pieces and they do compliment each other perfectly. Your girl does have a dreamy romantic look and the colour palette you have chosen suits her as do the roses
ReplyDeleteLee:)

you have been having too much fun, YOU. i left a note on fb and said something about the "grid thing". ...and thought about it later, and hope you know that it was all good, that i meant grids for me get too bogged down with too much "sameness"...nothing to do with your grids. you know i love your work to PIECES! :)) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThey compliment each other beautifully (and I think your rose is wonderful - very romantic)!
