This is my new thing that I can't stop doing--taking old dictionary pages (with all those cool little images on them) and sheet music and spray-painting and stamping on them--
I like using the Tulip fabric spray paint because it's permanent, so when you layer different colors on top of one another, they don't bleed together.
So I decided to make another mirror, and I collaged plain pages on it with the plan of spray painting it just like these--but it didn't work right, and I know why.
I collaged the pages on with matte medium and I also put the medium over top of them, which acts as a barrier, and I knew this! So as I was spray painting, I kept thinking--this isn't going to work--and it didn't. The paint didn't penetrate into the papers--it just layed on top--so I wasn't crazy on how it was going--so....no biggey. I just covered it up with another plan in mind. And........................I forgot to take a photo of the next layer. So the next photo is the second layer and the start of the third one.
For my first layer, I cut strips of my ALREADY painted pages and assorted tapes and scrapbook papers and collaged them on. And then I brushed a watery titan buff over them to tone them down, so I could make the main images (the 3rd layer) stand out.
The final layer--
.....with some added touches--
And finally the mirror (with wax paper on top of it because you wouldn't want to see that scary reflection staring back at you) to finish it off.....
And another 6 x 12 canvas flipped over--
As you can see, I've been busy, and it's getting even busier. March is here!! Yay!--the month of Spring---new workshops starting up (I can't stay away from these things)---and getting out and enjoying the the change of seasons. Even though our Springs are mostly cold and rainy, it doesn't matter--Spring is on its way!!
This is great! Love the colors and your added pieces : )

just beautiful! i just love using pages from vintage books or sheet music. i may use a variation of this technique for one of my mirrors. but clarify something for me, would ya? you 'painted' and 'stamped' on the papers, BEFORE you laid the papers down on the frame, is that right? after that, you sealed with medium. is that right? (that makes sense)
ReplyDeletewell it just turned out beautiful.
