Back From Highway 127 Yard Sale

Hey  guys  I'm  back!  I've  only  been  gone  for  6  days,  but  it seems  like 6 years!  I  am  completely  worn  out.  I  don't  know about  this  vacation  thing.  Everytime  I  come  back,  it  takes  me a few  days  to get  my  energy  back.  I  think  I  might  be  doing  this  wrong.  Maybe  I  should  be  taking  the  time  to actually relax!

And  the  heat  didn't   help  any   either.  Everyday  was  in  the  90's  with  very  high  humidity.  Last  Thursday  was  also  very  stormy, scary  weather,  but that sure  didn't  stop any  of  the  crowds.

Look  at  that  traffic!!--but  everyone  was  very  patient  and  very  courteous  with  each  other.

Lots  of  great  booths  everywhere  we  went too.

And  I  was  right--Flower  Power  IS  still  alive!!

Right  down  to  the  VW  Bus!!

You'll see everything here!! We saw alot of freshly churned ice cream, but this one was a first for me.

Yes,  he  was  churning  the ice  cream,   and  he  was  earning  his  living  that  day.  Poor thing--it was  so  incredibly  hot out!!

So you're probably wondering what I brought home with me-----so am I.   I bought so much stuff, that I can't even remember.  It's kind of like Christmas for me   going  through  all of  the bags here. I haven't even finished looking through them yet.  I"ll show you some of what I've gone through.

I   have  a  weakness  for  vintage fabrics,  lace, and crocheted  doilies.  I've  crocheted  alot  of  thread   doilies  in  my  day,  so  I  can  appreciate  the  time  to  it  takes  to  make  just  one  of  these.   I  have  enough   fabric  now  to  last  me  for  2  lifetimes!

Hey , look  at  this  --more  lace : )   Also,  some great  deeper  cigar  boxes, and  you'll  always  see  the  old  sewing  machine  drawers  at  the  Highway  127  sale--they  make  great  shadowboxes!

This  is  just  a  fraction  of  all  the  hardware  that  I  found.  And  those  porcelain  doorknobs  were only  $1.00  each,  which  is  very  unusual  at  this sale.   Usually  all  of  the  vintage  doorknobs  are  pretty  high  in  price.

And  handwritten  letters--I  absolutely  LOVE  this  lost  art--handwritten  letters!  And  look  at that  shorthand  book.  I  took  3  years  of  this  in  High  School.   Boy,  that  really  paid  off,  didn't  it?

There's  more,  but  I'll continue  on  in  my  next  post.  And I  wanted  to thank everyone  for  their  help  with  my  laptop  problem.  I'm  going to  have  to say  that  MAC  won  out.   Actually, my  son  Nick  has  one, and  he's  coming  for a  visit  in  a couple  of days too  : )  So  we'll talk.   But  for  right now,  they're  suppose  to  send  us  a  brand  new  one--I'm   still   not  holding   my   breath.  All   I   know  is  that  I  really  miss the speed  of  the laptop.  I've  been  working  on  our old home computer,  which  is  very  very slow,  and  you   have  to  be  very  patient  with  it (kind  of  like  blogger--I'm  having  a  heck  of  a time  this  morning  trying  to  do  this post!) ,  but  I  have  to  say  that  I'm  kind  of  losing  my patience.  But  it's  been  good  to  us, and  you  know  what  kind  it  is?  Well,  it  rhymes  with  the  word   Bell  : )

  2. Well I have been sitting on your step waiting for you to come home so I could see all you bought and how things looked. it looks just wonderful, and seeing the fun things you have is so much fun. I do love those doorknobs and hardware, also the vintage jewelry so pretty so much fun I know after you rest your mind will be just full of what to do with all you found.

I also took shorthand and I thought it a struggle, but I also have a book of it. Reading was so much easier than writing it.

I would be so tired after a vacation like that, but filled with great memories and ready to do it again in a couple weeks.

I also understand how much fun it is go go through the bags once you get home, one forgets all the good stuff and then there it is.

  8. Oh, what fun, Diane!!! Been thinking about you, and wondering what treasures you were finding, and DYING to see your post ... so you've made my day by sharing all this eye candy here. The Flower Power had me laughing ... admittedly, I still love me some flower power and seeing VW buses, ;). The doilies and vintage materials are so awesome, as are the hardware pieces and sewing drawer. But the vintage letters grab my eye and heart, reminding me of days gone by and weekly letters from my Grandma in that elegant handwriting that was the common thing in her day. What a dying art that breaks my heart to think about.

So glad you've made it home safely, and . . . hopefully have a resolution in the works for your laptop fiasco.

Wishing you a week of restfulness, filled with creative daydreams of ideas in using some of your great finds! Welcome Home!

  13. Hi Diane....If you are getting a MAC....you can get a refurbished for less on the apple store website and they come with the very same guarantee as a new one....I have one and love it and my son, a professional, buys them for his work...he is in advertising. If you ever go MAC you'll jump for joy after you have learned....it is so fast and user friendly!!! When I dropped mine, I dinged the lid and they picked it up and it was back in 24 hrs and I live in the country.....all free ...with APPLE CARE which I highly recommend. As you can see I am now a MAC fan....it is sooo worth the difference in money....or paying it out doesn't hurt so bad because it is such a pleasure to use. What great goodies you got!!!

  14. Thanks for sharing your yard sale pics...You found some great stuff...but I'll have to say the horse was my favorite photo...it probably was a better job for him than dragging a plow. I look forward to seeing how you use some of your finds in future projects.
