The title of this piece is "Clara's New Beau"--oh yeah that's right, Clara's at it again. This is her in her younger days with her new boyfriend. I don't know his name, and I'm sure she didn't remember it either later on in her life, because she had many beaus in her time. She 's getting ready for her big date with him, which happens to be Valentine's Day. She's made up her face, used her best perfume (looks like she used it all up,too), and made sure to wear her pearls (that happened to be a gift from a former beau), and notice the roses--she received them for Valentine's Day......from someone else. They both seem to be very smitten with each other at the time this photo was taken:
I started out with an unfinished shadowbox, and turned it backwards--
I don't like to use things the way they're supposed to be used--probably why I reversed it. Then I collaged sheet music on the outside and inside. After that I Mod Podged the images first and then the lace on the reverse side of the glass--so basically everything was under the glass instead of on top:
And then I just used Clara's items, and completed my box. The image of Clara and her new suitor I found on Google--how she ended up there, I'll never know. You know, all this talk about Clara--do you think that Clara could be my muse??
So there's two things happening next weekend--St. Valentine's Day and my Birthday! I could do without one of them : ) And I also wanted to direct you to Kelly's blog. I met her in Suzi's class and she is having a giveaway, but a little bit different than most. She makes beautiful jewelry, and her giveaway is any image of your art that she will put in a pendant for you--isn't that cool? You have until Feb. 12 (which happens to be my birthday--that would be a great present, don't you think?) Happy Valentine's day everyone!
Well, I must say that Clara really is quite the gal about town isn't she? Those poor suitors trailing around after her, spending their hard-earned cash on flowers and keepsakes....
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely Diane! Full of personality and fun!
What a great piece, just in time for Valentines' Day! I love all of the beautiful lace! I'll have to hop over to Kelly's and enter the contest!
ReplyDeleteDiane, this is an outstanding piece of art! I love all the wonderful elements you have used to create it. Diane (MMM)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful creative mix of elements- wonderful lace and pearls- so romantic and feminine!
ReplyDeleteLove all the embellishments, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove this! How do you get these finished so fast--even before it is Monday??? Have a happy birthday next weekend!
ReplyDeleteYOu are not going to believe this one, Diane... February 12 is MY birthday not Abe Lincoln's. LOL. I am a heck of a lot older than you sweetie, believe me. . . just got back from Oliver's condo for dinner. He absolutely LOVES the snow. He has a ball in it. So, that being said, I do believe Clara is your muse.... Someday I will feature mine on my blog, I just looked up at her a gal from the 60s with a cig hanging out of her fingers and a behive hair doooo. Photo could have been around early 60s - I was young then I really was. Love and Happy Birthday to us!
ReplyDeleteExquisite ... Love the pearls and lace!
ReplyDeleteLove your shadow box! It's romantic and elegant!
ReplyDeleteClara, now that gal knows how to pick a valentine and you sure know how to put one together. Very romantic collection. Love the lace and pearls. Come check out your Birthday Announcement on CollectInTexas Gal....Sue
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. Great use of the shadow box.
ReplyDeleteThis is as romantic as it gets, all those vintage goodies, everything I love in one box(except for the beau,I have my own)Just Gorgeous, love every little detail and I was thinking that Clara must be your muse even before I read it.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that Clara is your muse. My muse is Mattie Lou and she is perpetually young and free painting with abandon. I love this shadowbox piece. I have never done a shadow box. I should try it!
ReplyDeleteThis is so stunning! All of the details tell your story so well! Kristin :)
ReplyDeleteI love the continuing saga of Clara's life. You are so imaginative. The shadow box is lovely with all of Clara's bits added to it. Lovely!

Mary

I love everything about this assemblage, as well as your post. The back story about Clara was so much fun to read and made the piece even more appealing.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to read about and see how you put this piece together from beginning to end. Many of the elements are so appealing. I was drawn to the central image that you hid the actual size of, as well as the edges of the picture by overlapping lace under it, then placing the frame on top to distort the seamless flow of the elements behind it (the frame). Wonderful composition.
this is a jewell and so many beautiful details
