Hi everyone! I hope your Easter weekend was as enjoyable as ours---more dreary weather--but that's okay---it was all good.
I've been embossing metal again, but this time I tried something a little bit different--more of a collage with the embossed metal being one of the elements along with scrapbook papers and stamped images on a little bit larger scale. BTW, if anyone is interested on how I do this, I do have a couple of tutorials on my blog about embossing. You can go HERE or HERE. I pretty much cover everything on how I emboss metal using different techniques.
Here's my latest pieces--
Both of these pieces are on these--
I found these 2 oblong mirrors (about 5 x 12 inches) at a garage sale last year for a total of a $1.00. You can always repurpose these frames for any type of art--don't discard them! And then what I did was cut the piece of metal to fit into the insert of the frame.
I planned my design beforehand, so I just embossed the part of the metal that would be showing, and then I just adhered the papers right onto the non-embossed metal--
Very easy--the metal is just like any surface when you use gel medium on it. And it adheres to the mirror with no problem.
And then for the frame, I wanted to give it the look of peeled paint but I wanted it to have the texture which is very easy when you heat the wet paint with a heat gun--
I did this on the corners of the frames with a metallic bronze paint--the paint will bubble up which makes for great texture!
These pieces came together rather quickly, and I really like how the embossed metal adds to a collage--so try it! It's easy!!
These are jawdroppingly gorgeous. When I first saw them as a thumbnail size photo I thought they were actual doors into a room. Wouldn't that be fantastic! Having come for a close up look and being able to see all the fabulous detail I'm even more awestruck. Very clever too. Penny
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! And I love how you see potential art in everything. :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I love these!!! You are right...the metal really adds a punch! thanks so much for sharing this...you make it seem very doable! Will have to experiment! -Soraya
ReplyDeleteYou have created such a rich effect here. I just love the results of your efforts. You say it is easy but it looks like you labored for weeks on it! Did you use acrylic on the faces for the see through effect-love the way you can see the background through the face. Girl on the right is my favorite...so soft looking.
ReplyDeletediane, your soul is a treasure chest. these are such reflections!
ReplyDeleteriches upon riches shine out of you. thank you for showing them to us. BEAUTIFUL. xoxox

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as always, and I especially like the way you extended the art onto the frame with the bubbled paint and lace. It gives an "ancient" vibe that I find very attractive.
