So that's what I've been doing this week. I've put it on another mirror. I don't know what's harder--getting a decent photo of the embossed metal or trying to get a good shot of a mirror. I think, the metal is harder. It's like the camera just has a problem with the reflective shiny metal--I don't know. I just don't like how these photos turned out---it's definitely much better in person! So what I did was make small pieces like I usually do and then put them all together on the mirror frame.
These are probably my most favorite techniques that I do on metal--stamp and paint with regular acrylic paint. And I went a little steampunk style with the combination of old watch parts and Tim Holtz embellishments--
And using my Graphic 45 Steampunk papers
I also like using the paper punches on the metal--
And the finished mirror--(with some wax paper to get rid of my reflection : )
....best I could do--added to the fact that our days have been very dark and dreary here. If I waited for a bright day, it would be a while before I get better photos. The weather for the rest of the week is the same everyday--cloudy, rainy and in the 40's to 50's---not having a very nice Spring this year!
Extraordinary piece, love all the smaller pieces coming together to make the whole. Understand your camera frustrations, but the piece still looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis is SO lovely Diane. There is so much detail I could look and look and still find new things to admire.
ReplyDeleteSpring here has been unusually gorgeous so I expect we've got some of your good weather.
Hope it warms up for you soon.

May be dreary there(weatherwise) but you most definitely have perked things up with your embossed metal!!! Wow! its beautiful and came together so perfect for the frame. Just LOVE it! So unique.
ReplyDeleteI love that you are always trying new things! This metal embossing is very cool!!
ReplyDeleteDiane, these are so beautiful, with extraordinary depth. If they look better in person, it must be exquisite.
ReplyDeleteI love these!!! I think your mirror photo turned out nicely..great idea to use the wax paper! I didn't know you are in Erie, PA. My hubby is from Newcastle and I am from Akron, Ohio and we spent our youth on Lake Erie..one of my most favorite places on earth. So we moved to Erie when I was pregnant with #1 son to be closer to parents and family. Shane was born there in 1980 but we moved back to Utah in 1982. The winters were so foul and I was fighting bad cases of SAD. Now it is gloomy here this spring! Normally we are getting heat and lovely sun....
ReplyDeletethe final finished mirror frame is a huge WOW for me! Simply wonderful in all ways!
ReplyDeleteYour mirror turned out beautiful! I especially like the steampunk touch. That is a genre of choice with me.
ReplyDeleteWe FINALLY got some dry days here in Portland but still cold. We have only had a couple days when we even made it to 60 - BOO!
These are awesome. I love how the paint looks on the metal. Love the bird and the swirls and the color, just everything.

ReplyDeleteDear Diane,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. Your work is amazing. I am in awe at what you do. I suppose I am a hands-on kind of gal but, looking at your work, I want to bow my arms towards you and say, "Wow! You are the queen when it comes to embossing metal". I know what you mean about cameras not capturing the true color or essence of a piece of art. I'm loving your work! I love the steampunk look. You go girl!
It's rainy here too (Mass). I look forward to the sunny, crisp days of spring.
