This is my Hippie girl with a little updated shabby look, and she's on a 9 x 12 piece of wood--this has to be one of my favorite surfaces to work on. I know, I know, you're probabyly wondering where's the humor? I'll get to that in a minute. I was just being a bit nostalgic this week, reliving my teen years. I was what you would call, in my words, a "trendy" Hippie--everybody was. I didn't live in a commune or anything, I just liked to dress like one, because that was the fashion for us teenagers way, way back then, which I'm sure irritated the heck out of the authentic Hippie. They became mainstream--they became part of "the Establishment", which was their main reason for being. They wanted to change the Establishment.
So now comes the giggle/laughter part. They had alot of sayings, like "Make love, not war", "Tune in, turn on, and drop out", and one of my favorites was "Don't trust anyone over 30". So what's their new motto now?
"Don't trust anyone over 90" ??

Love it! The photo of the tye dye couple is hilarious!
Oh, she needs to be enlarged to see all the beautiful details! I love it - your etherial image and colors are just perfect! Kristin xo
She's beautiful! I remember those days, very well...lol. Love the picture of the fun couple!
I think it would be don't trust anyone younger than 40! Very cool piece! Love your work... as usual!
KOOL!
Ah, those were the days, grin! I must admit I envy those old hippies just a little. \Another one of my favourite sayings from back then was "save water, shower with a friend". Oh, by the way, I love your painting! Diane
Wonderful reminder of a more carefree age! I love the painting. I love the photo of the colorful couple. You've got imagination and much creativity.
Well of course flower power, and to this day it is hard to do art work without a flower, I like Mama Cass, Bob Dylon, who I stil liten to, becasue we use different words but some of the fears are the same.
We were raising young children, worry about going to Viet Nam, friends going, and I recall the feeling so well as I sit here now.
LOvely work, always becutiful faces and colors plus great design.
Peace, Emelie
This is so funny!! Love your girl--colors on her are great! Where did you get that photo? GROOVY!!

I love your hippie girl. She is totally groovy.
Diane, love her and the tie dyed couple!! too funny!
Excellent. Great card.
I love how the old lady has 'granny hair' but hippy dress. The old guy is clearly still hanging on tighter to his hippy values!! Lovely artwork too of course!!
I am also a little jealous of your nose. Hers is just so perfect! Perhaps I need to spend some time just drawing and painting noses until I get one I like...
Your hippie girl is gorgeous!
Oh wow flower power feeling.
Fantastic design and work.
ha! i was but a wee one in the seventies, but i still had my favourite red suit with flowers embroidered up the outside legs and sleeves - they dont make em like that anymore!!! and having two older sisters always helped as they were always dressing me up in the latest hippy stuff!!!
This is wonderful ... the couple reminds me of "I got you babe". LOL :) Have a great week. LOL
hehehe...great pic!! Your painting is totally awesome.
Debby
OK, cute stuff, how did you get my photo with the old gizzard not trusting anyone over 90? I resemble that and I do remember the slogan "over 30". That being said, you work is beautiful! hugs
I love your hippie chick and what a fun photo- I'm giggling!
Your artwork is gorgeous and you story so much fun!
Too funny. Your posts are always such a joy to read. And the art that goes along with them is always so enjoyable. Love your little hippy beauty.
lol Diane!
Oh, how I too longed to be a hippee! I was just couple of years too young, but I did what I could as a junior high school student. Your little flower child is lovely, and I adore the way you incorporated the peace sign.
Diane
I meant to ask you about the wood that you paint on. Is is basswood or what and how thick is it? In Suzi's class she doesn't ever really talk about the wood. Thanks!!
GOL--you have made me giggle out loud!!! I was a hippie poser too but also very preppy when I wanted to be. I could change like a chameleon.
This hippie girl is fabulous. I just love the way you paint your faces--so dreamy. I love the way to you the hair too. You must do a Youtube for all of us hair-challenged face drawers!! I am not sure if Wyanne still does a class but is for the pure beginner for sure which was good for me at the time.
Great hippie girl!
Hee! Now I see the funny--thanks for the giggle today. =D
Groovy! Love the painting you did and enjoyed the heck out of seeing the old hippies.
Peace,
Mary
Oh I loved the funny picture!! I think I was the same type of hippie girl, and I still loved the era and the clothes, some of them, in some ways I am still that girl inside :D I just thought your girl was brilliant!!!! Love her so much!!!
Groovy man!I think I was at that party!
I love how you do your layering in your paintings; it's so subtle, and it gives a lot of depth.
too too funny and soooo true...boy, you brought back some memories for me today, i thank you whole heartedly!!
just love this piece, everything about it!!!
:) Thanks for the smile on my face.
HI, new to the blog world and wanted to drop by to say hi. Last month at the Nashville wearing my favorite painted blue jeans a dealer hollered out to me "Best you were a hippy in the 70's" He was so correct -big grin
So I love your hippy girl!
Cheers, cindykay
