Lillac Festival without some kind of lilac art?--
I started out with one of my favorite surfaces--an old cupboard door that I painted and then I collaged the outside border with my papers and also some handmade paper that I had--
I didn't even remember that I had this pack of handmade paper. I love it--it's very textured and it has dried leaves and flower petals in it. I stamped on it--you can't really paint on it, unless you spray some sort of sealer on it.
Just great texture!
I really like working with these doors, because they have their own built-in frame.
And I haven't just painted in a while--so that's how I wanted to complete this --just get out the paints and go!

Hello Diane!
So glad to meet you! I'm following your blog now too! I'm loving your paintings and your colorful blog! Best wishes to you at the lilac festival, your painting is BEAUTIFUL!
Love,
Jenny
YOu did a wonderful job with those lilacs, they are not all that easy, I know from doing them in watercolor. Your whole idea is just perfect. I agree it is important to have something that says I am in the Lilac show. I hae a friend who does a Blueberry Festival and does many chickadees with the berries and they are gone in no time.
I know it would be nice to have it for a bit and not sell it first thing. YOu can always do a couple faces and have lilacs in their hair.
That's beautiful Diane!! Wow!!
Hey... good luck at the show and say *hi* to Martha for me...lol!
Whoa Diane...this is gorgeous! Such detail and the colors...wow. I love it! Oh...and BTW I went to RIT for undergrad..years ago...saw you were in Rochester. Smiles...
It's beautiful... I wish I could paint.. cupboard doors sound like fun!

Hi Diane!
Thanks for the visit to my blog! I am so glad you found me because now I found your blog! :)
Your door is beautiful and so are all your other art. Love your style!
I am sure your work will be tops at the show! Good luck!
You have a new follower!
Have a lovely day :)
I am LUVIN' this!!! Beautiful!!! I took your suggestion and bought the book. I already had the other Color Collage book. Can't wait to get it!! Thanks!!!!! Have you drawn Bloody Mary yet??? ::)
How beautiful, Diane! I honestly thought the flowers were silk bouquets somehow attached to the door- you captured the look of the individual petals and the dimension of them so perfectly. The shading is awesome and the lilacs look just lovely on that stunning door. I too, think you will be coming home with money and no art... YAY! Have fun at the show- and thanks for sharing what you do! xo
Diane, this is gorgeous! Those lilacs look SO REAL!!! As though they are hanging out of your painting!! Wonderful design!
When I was scrolling through my reader I though the lilacs we silk flowers glues to the door. I didn't realize they were painted until I started reading. This is great work! Beautiful!
what a cool idea! I love using that old cupboard door - the arch is perfect for your flowers :)
I'm blown away by this mixed media piece. I'm sure this piece will be snatched up quickly.
