New Art

Before  I  show  you  my  new  art,  I  want  to  thank  everyone  for  all  of  your  visits  and  comments  on  my circus  pieces.   A  few  of  you  have  asked  me  if  I'm  going  to  be  selling  my  boxes  online, and  yes  I  am  after  my  show  in  Dec.   But  I'll  be  sure  to  let  everyone  know!

So  I  have  a  little  more  time  to  do  the  kind  of  art  that  I  like  to  make,  and  that  started  out  with  painting  my  own  papers--

These  are  on  watercolor  papers.   I  wanted  something  really  durable  and  heavy  enough  to  hold  all  of  the  layers  that  I  put  on,  starting  with  spray  inks  and  then  acrylics  mixed  in  with  stamping  and  whatever  I  had  on  hand.

And  then  I  started  out  with  my  first  layer  on  my  surface--

These  papers  were  so  stiff,  I  didn't  even  mess  with  the  regular  gel  medium  to  adhere  them--I  went  right  to  the  big-boy  stuff  and  used  my  heavy  gel  medium,  which  worked  like  a  charm.

And  then  came  the  2nd  layer--

.......and  followed  with  the  finishing  touches....
.....including  the  "frame-work"...

....all  on  this  cupboard  door--
If  you  read  my  blog,  then  you  know  that  these  are  one  of  my  favorite  surfaces  to  work  on,  with  the  added  bonus  that  I  will  pay  no  more  than  $5.00  for  these  doors  (and  even that's  a pretty  steep  price)  at  garage  sales.

I  really  enjoyed  making  this  because  I  took  my  time  and  just  enjoyed  the  process,  but  I  know  that  I'm  probably  going  to  regret  enjoying  this  too  much,  because  when  it  comes  down  to  the  wire--I'm  going  to  be  stressing  out  (like  I  usually  do)  before  these  shows  and  wondering--  Did  I  make  enough???
But  in  the  meantime---this  was  fun!!

Hi Diane,
This is so GLORIOUS!!! I just love the papers you created with all the colour and texture and layers. Wonderful.
You need to give yourself permission to 'play' sometimes - just for the pleasure of feeling free to create without the pressure of 'I need to..'

Awe, this is so so cool! I LOVE your deliciously painted papers and you know, after a day in the studio (er, guest room ;) yesterday that ended in disaster, I think I may just do some painted papers today - what a great idea to get the ideas flowing again - thanks for the inspiration and have a great weekend, xoxoxo

It is always fun to come here, I have been thinking about you, I was wondering about a Dec. show and knowing you had some time to get ready. Who ever said being an artist wasn't work? You have worked so hard and produced such great things and variety and not just small but pretty large pieces of art.

I like the layers also and the way you keep colors clean and bright, you might talk about that some time when things are not so much pressure.

Thanks for being there Diane you so appreciated and loved.
