Flip It

That's  what  I  do  when  I  want  to  change  things  up  a  bit.   I  usually  work  on  the  gallery  canvases  with  the  deep  sides,  and  when  I  want  to  go  a  bit  more  dimensional,  I  just  flip  it  over  to  make  a  shadowbox.    In   this  case,  it's  a  wood  cradle  board-but  the same  thing.  So  it  started  out  like  this--

I  love  these  little  wood  houses  that  I  found  on  Etsy.   The  one  on  the  left  is  from  Indiandollartworks.    Her  main  thing  there  are  her  art  dolls,  which  are  awesome!   Right  now  she's  not  offering  the  houses--hopefully  soon  though.   And  the  ones  on  the  right  I  just  discovered   over  at  ClickityClack  where  they  have  a  number  of  unfinished  wood  items.    So  here's  how  it  ended  up  after  I  was  finished  with  it--

I  just   got  out  my  papers  and  images  of  my  art  and  all  those  crazy  little  embellishments  and  had  some  fun!

And  continuing  on  with  my  Fresco  Workshop- -this  time  Joyce  had  us  make  a  box,  which  you  know  how  much  I  enjoy  making  these--so  that's  what  I  did!

What a fun project, especially the flowers on the spools and the beads look kind of like rain falling. Beautiful!

I'm super impressed with the way you flip houses. OOPS, I mean the way you flip the canvas to hold the houses. Love this one. I am especially fond of the spool trees.

Goodness Gracious Alive! Diane, I Love The Magic You Create! My Niece Is Here Visiting (precious 13 year old) And Commented On How Much This Piece Would Be Perfect For Her Room. I Still Think Flipping The Side Of The Canvas To Use As A Shadow Box Remains One Of Your Best Inventions. Amazing! And Hey ~ This Newest Box Is Sensational! I Hope You Can Easily See I Love Everything You Do! Have A Beautiful Week! Love & Sunshine, Terri

Hi Diane! I love what you did with the houses! Wow! I have 3 very similar to those. My friend Linda's husband does some woodworking and cut some out for us! If I could just get over that "I'll mess it up" syndrome maybe I'll make something! You have inspired me!

how cute, awesome idea. i saw an artist on oregon art beat recently that does her painting on the front of the canvas then turns it over and collages on the back. the galley displayed her work by hanging from a wire that spanned across the studio so everyone could see both sides.

I was getting desperate to find shadow boxes on Etsy...and they were so doggone expensive...so I too, thought...Why not flip a canvas over and use the backside? Perfect! I love what you are making! And I have about 100 smaller spools, similar to the larger ones you have...I love what you are doing with yours! And your vibrant colors are 'over the moon'!~
Thank you for sharing your lovely artistic talents!

And congratulations for being highlighted in Stampington publications!
