A Wild 'N Reckless Summer of Color

Yes--that's  the  new  color  this week  for  Kristin's  Summer  of  Color.   According  to  Baskin  Robbins,  it's  a  mixture  of  blue  raspberry,   green  apple  and  fruit  punch  sherbet--how  fun  is  this--who  thinks  of  these  fun  names  I  wonder.......

So  this  week,  I  kept  it  to  a  minimum--

some  colorful  acrylic  paints,  and  matching  inktense  pencils   all  ending  up  on  this  cupboard  door  that  I  just  found  at  a  flea  market  last  week.

I  love  flea  markets,  and  I'm always  looking  for  ones  that  our  closer  to  us.   Our  favorite  one  is  a  good  2 1/2  hour  drive  away  (one  way).   But  recently  I  found  this  one  on  the  internet  (it  had  its  own  website  and  everything),  and  it  was  only  about  1  1/2  hours  away,  so  I  was  looking  forward  to  seeing  what  it  was  like--a  big  disappointment.    The  only  thing  I  found  was  this  cupboard  door--well  actually  there  were  2  of  them.  I  got  them  at  a  good  deal  (2  for  $5.00)---but  it  wasn't  worth  driving  all  that  way  for  just  these  2  items.   If  all  flea  markets  were  like  this,  I  would  never  go  to  them....so  I  guess  I  can  cross  this  one  off  my  list.

BUT--one  good  thing--the  door  was  a  perfect  size  for  what  I  wanted  to  do  this  week  for  Kristin's  color  prompt.

And  in  the  meantime,  I've  been  taking  an  online  class  with  Jodi  Ohl  over  at  the  Artful  Gathering  ning  site--Sweet  Art--all  about  great  mixed  media techniques  and  cupcakes  and  cakes--great  class.    And  if  you've  been  to  my  Facebook  page,  you've  seen  the  cupcakes  that  I've  made  from  this  class.   They're  addictive,  and  I  wanted  to  make  some   more--so  that's  what  I  did--

.....and  adding  the  background  techniques  that  Jodi  showed  us  for  the  edges  of  the  door--

........everything  came  together  just  as  I  was  hoping  for.....

I  even  made  it  a  bit  functional  with  these  knobs--they  can  be  used  to  hang   keys or  whatever.   This  is  a  great  color  combination--very  wild  and  reckless--I'd  say.

I  want  to  thank  Kristin  for  all  of  these  excellent  color  prompts.   There's  only  1  week  left,  and  I'm  sad  to  see  it  coming  to  an  end--it's  very  fun  to  challenge  yourself  to  just  using  colors  that  are  suggested  to  you  whether  you  like  them  or  not--you  usually  end  up  being  pleasantly  surprised  with  the  outcome--so  thanks  Kristin--I  hate  to  see  it  come  to  an  end,  and  I  can't  wait  to  see  what  you  have  planned  for  next  year!

I want to begin by apologizing for not visiting last week. I really liked your take on the colors, especially since I took such liberties with mine. And those papers were precious. If I ever find a doll, I want to take your idea for that box and run with it.

On to this week! I am always in awe of your art, and a bit envious you get to take all those classes on the internet. Sorry your trip was a disappointment. We lost all our flea markets, too. Now I just shop at the local thrift store, which doesn't offer much. From looking at it, I would never have guessed this was a wooden door. You did a fantastic job turning it into the perfect addition for this week's colors. BTW, these were my favorite colors of all Kristin has given us. I can't wait to see what you come up with for watermelon!

You do amazing things with old cupboard doors, not to mention all your other flea market finds. I guess finding the right source makes it worth the miles, I'm always amazed at what you find when you go thrift'n :-)
