Just Mixed Media

That's  the  title  of  the  magazine  that  I'm  happy  to  be  a  part  of--Just Mixed Media --

It's  just  the  2nd  issue,  and  it's  great--packed  with  lots  of  mixed  media  art,  and  so  happy  that  my  art  is  included--

And  speaking  of  mixed  media  art--I've  been  making  it--

starting  with  collage  and  making  texture....

I  like  using  houses  in  my  art  a  lot!

And....oh  yeah--I  also  like  to  use  the  sun  and  moon  too--

So  why  not  put  them  all  together!

My Paper Quilt

 I've  been  visiting  Pinterest  lately,  and  if  you've  been  there  too,   you  know  how  it  can  be--you're  looking  for  some  inspiration,  and  3  hours  later,  you're  wondering  where  the  time  went.   Needless  to  say,  I  found  some  great  inspiration  there..  

This  time  it  was  in  the  form  of  art  quilts.   I  really  admire  this  art  form--but  wouldn't  know  what  to  do  with  a  sewing  machine  or  needle  and  thread  if  you  handed  it  to  me. 

So  this  is  my  version  of  an  art  quilt.....my  paper  quilt.

I  started  out  with  my  'fabrics'--

......I  had  an  18 x 18 birch  cradle  board  that  I  decided  to  use  for  my  'quilt'  surface--

I  took  my  time  when  I  pieced  this  'quilt'  together--I  thoroughly  enjoyed  the  process  of  putting  it  together.   And  in  the  end......

--I've  been  loving  framing  my  art  lately...

A  box--that  just  happens  to  have  a  house  attached  to  the  top  of  it.   I  really  love  putting  houses  in  my  art--no  place  like  it!  : )

Okay--so  I'm  stretching  it  a  bit  here-- I  didn't  create  this  one  myself--it's  actually  a  magazine  clipping  that  I  found  years  ago,  but  knew  I'd  be  using  it  someday--I'm  just  trying  to  be  a  little  creative  with  bringing  up  new  faces  everyday.

My Whimsy Houses III (with help from Graphic 45)

I  LOVE   making  these  houses!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And  I  have  to  give  credit  to  Graphic  45's  latest  papers--"A  Ladies  Diary"--

 

 

 

They've  outdone  themselves--these  papers  are  gorgeous!  And  I  used  this  vintage  book for  the text  faces  of  my  angels--I  thought  it  was  fitting  for  the  papers. 

 

So....I  didn't  stop  with  the  houses--I  kept  going--with  a  mirror--

 

 

 

....and  a  box...

 

 

 

...wonderful  vintage  feel  to  these  papers--and  they're  all  going  with  me  tomorrow.   I've  been  whipping  these  things  out  so  fast----I  guess  I  work  well  under  pressure.   This  is  my  biggest  show  of  the  year,  and   I  love  it!!  The  weather's  looking  okay,  but  at  this  show,  it  really  doesn't  matter--it's  a  good  one!!

 

Some New Art Before I Leave

I'm  as  ready  as  I'll ever  be  for  these  next  3  weekends  (I guess).   I'm  leaving  today  with art  that  I've  been  making  for  these  last  couple  of  months,  and  was  able  to  squeeze  some  more  in  this  week....

And  I  checked  the  weather,  like  I've  been  doing   for  the  last  2  weeks,  and  tomorrow's  weather  looks  horrible--thunderstorms  and  wind--can't  get  any  better  than  that.   Maybe  the  forecast  will change,  like  it  does  everyday  when  I  check  it.   Oh  well--comes  with  the  territory.   I  hope  to  take  some  pics  when  I'm  there--it's  a  really  fun  festival,  and  here's  the  website:  http://www.yankeepeddlerfestival.com

Watermelon Ice

I  can't  believe  it,  but  this  is  the  last  week  for  Kristin's  Summer  of  Color!   That  6  weeks  came  and  went  in  the  blink  of  an  eye--a  little  scary  how  time  flies  by  so  fast......

The  final  color  for  this  week  is  Watermelon  Ice--another  fun  color. 

So  this  week  I  went  with  my  favorite  6 x 6  gallery  canvases  again--I  made  3  of  them.   Here's  the  start  of  the  first--

.....and  I  added  my knobs/"cherries"  again  (I'm  obsessed  with  these  things)...

And  in  the  first  week,  I  showed  you  another  favorite  sweet  treat  of  mine--my  granddaughter  Zoie.....so  I'll  end the  last  week  with  this  sweet  little  treat  again...

She's  now  3 1/2  months  old....and  look  at  that!--she  found  her  fingers! --she's  such  a  sweetheart!

Summer of Color 2012

It's  here   again--the  Summer  of  Color  hosted by  Kristin  of  Twinkle  Twinkle.   I  had  so  much  fun  with  this  weekly  color  prompt  challenge  last  year,  and  I'm  so  glad  that  she  decided  to  do  it  again.   And  this  year  it's  all  about  ice  cream--like  for   instance,  the  color  this  week  is  rainbow  sherbet---the  flavors  of  raspberry  and  orange  with  a  little  lemon  thrown  into  the  mix--very  very  yummy!

And  I  knew  that  I  wanted  to  work  with  papers  for  this  one,  but  I  didn't  have  a  lot  in  these  colors,  so  I  just  had  to  paint  some.....

....if  you've  never  done  this  before--try  it--it's  a  great  way  to  try  different  techniques,  and  if  you  really  don't  like  what  you've  done,  toss  it  (but  don't,  because  any  painted paper  cut  up  for  collage  always  looks  cool).

Okay,  I  decided  to  use  these  for  the  same  type  of  project  that  I  started  out  with  last  year--a  box  of  course.

If  you've  never  been  here  before---this  is  one  of  my  loves--boxes,  and  if  you  have  been  here  before,  then  you  already  know  this.   My  favorite  part  is  adding  all  of  the  details..

I  always  think  of  the  lid  as  a  separate  piece  of  art,  like  a  canvas--you  know,  something  that  could  be  hung  on  a  wall.    And  I  never  forget  about  the  inside  of  it  either....

But  this  year,  I  thought,  Hey--why  stop  at  just  one  box---I'll  make  another  one!

I   really  love  this  color  combo,  and  one  that  I  rarely  use,  but  thanks  to  Kristin,  I  will.   This  is  why  I  like  these  weekly  color  prompts--you'll  discover  so  much  more  when  you  restrict  yourself  to  colors  that  sometimes  you  never  would  have  considered,  which  usually  end  up  being  part  of  your  permanent  color  palette.
