Collaging and Assembling

That's  what  I've  been  up  to  this  past  week  with  a  couple  of  art  shows  thrown  in.   I've  been  in  2  so  far--both  good  (this  last  weekend  we  had  a  small  'issue'  with  the  weather,  but  it  didn't  stop  us  or  the  people  from  coming  out!)

 

So  just  a  quick  post  to  show  you  my  latest  work--

And  now  back  to  work--I  have  2  more  shows  (this  weekend  and  the  next),  and  then  I  have  a  little  break--I  was  prepared though--I've  been  making  art  all  winter,  and  it's  great  getting  out with  my  art  and  talking  (and  getting  feedback)  with  people--no  matter  what  Mother  Nature  decides  to  bring  us!

 

Playing With My Other 'Art Supplies'

I  like  to  call  these  my  art  supplies--

 

 

Unlike  purchasing  from  an  art  store--I  purchase  these  from  garage  sales  and  flea  markets--most  of  these  items  would  most  likely  have  been  trashed  unless someone  else  found  them,  and  all  of  them  have  a  history  to  them--a  story  to  tell.

 

But  now they've  come  together  to  make  a  new  story--

 

 

...in  this  vintage  silverware  box...

 

 

and I've  made  a  new  doll--

 

 

 

....and  her  new  home  is  in  this  old  cheese  box--

 

 

 

I  couldn't  stop  with  my  art  supplies--I  altered  some  more  playing  cards  (see  my  last  post),  and  this  time  I  put  them on  some  wood  houses  and  even  a  little  tree--

Whatever  I  found  that  was  close  at  hand  went  into  this  Dream  box--pretty  much  how  I  dream.  I  think  whatever  is  floating  around  in  my  head  my  mind  grabs  and  puts  them  in  my  dreams,  and  sometimes  I  really  wonder  what's  going  on  in  my  head  because  I  can  have  some  pretty  strange  dreams!

 

So  this  weekend  is  my  first  show  of  the  year--the  Youngstown  Summer  Festival  of  the  Arts--it  seems  like  I've  been  getting  ready  for  years  for  my  art  shows  to  start  up  and  now  they're  finally  here--can't  wait  to  get  out  there  and  get  started!

My Online Class With Mary Jane

Mary Jane Chadbourne  is  one  of  my  favorite  artists--I  could  look  at  her  work  for  hours  and   always  find  something  new  in  her  art  pieces--just  beautiful.   So  I  knew  that  I  wanted  to  take  her  online  class  last  month--The  Spoken  Soul  over  at  the  Artful  Gathering  ning  site.  It's  all  about  making  ATC  cards  from  what  else--playing  cards.   I've  actually  never  made  ATC's  before,  so  everything  was  'new'  for  me.  But  once  I  got  going,  I  couldn't  stop--

 

 

 

This  was  just  the  start  with  the  first  set  of  cards...AND....the  first  layer--many  layers  to  follow....

 

 

 

I  started  out  with  these--but  that  was  just  the  beginning...

 

 

 

Each  one  takes  on  a  life  of  it's  own  and  has  a  little  'story'  to  tell--very  addictive  to  make!  So  I  put  my own  little  spin  on  them,  and  decided  to  put  them  in  my  own  art  pieces--

 

 

 

 

The  things  that  you  can  do  with  these  ATC's  are  limitless...or  you  can  use  them  for  their  original  purpose--to  trade  with  other  artists--but  however  you  use  them--they're  just  a  fun  way  to  make  some  art  when  you're  short  on  time  but  want  to  create.    I'm  so  glad  that  I  took  this  class  from  Mary  Jane--and  as  an  added  bonus--she's  a  great  teacher  also---love  her  style  all  around!

Another Post About Art Journaling

I've  blogged  about  this  topic  before--art  journals--I  don't  really  art  journal  that  much---I  start, and then  I  move  on,  but  I  do  love  the  freedom  of  art  journaling--making  art  just  for  the  sake  of  making  it.   And  here's  where  my  painted  papers  come  in--

 

 

 

......like  I've  said  before--these  are  my  'art  journal  pages'.....except  they  don't  end  up  in  a journal---they  end  up  in  my  art--

....mostly  what  I  used  on  the  'frame'  of  the  door  were  just  those  4  painted  papers,  and  I  had  some  scraps  left  over  for  2  more  art  pieces--

 

 

They   sure  do  go  a  long  way!

You  know  sometimes  I  can't  believe  how  lucky  I  am  to  call  this  my  'job'--I  love  what  I  do!!

'Home Sweet Home' Again (back from the Best Flea Market!)

I've  actually been  home  for  a  while--just getting  back  to  a normal  routine again (lots  going  on  around  here).   And  Yes--I've  been  to  a  lot  of  flea  markets,  but  this  one  in  Springfield, Ohio was  by  far  the  best  one  I've  ever  been  to  (even  better  than  the  highway  127  Sale  that  I  went  to  last  year).  This  was  my  first  time  there,  but  definitely  not  my  last!   Booth  after  booth  of  just  awesome items--

This  was  all  this  man  had  at  his  booth--spools  and  bobbins  of  every  size  that  you  could  imagine!  I  had  to  get  some--I  have  so  many  already,  but  I can't  resist  these  things.

 

And  the  vintage  hardware!!

 

 

There  were  lots  of  booths  just  like  this  with  your  pick  and  choose  of  any  type  of  hardware  that  you  could  think  of--prices  were  reasonable  too--PLUS  lots  of  good  haggling!

 

Here's  just  a  fraction  of  what  I  found  and  brought  home  with  me--

 

 

So  I  found  this  booth  with  license  plates--hundreds  of  them,  and  the  vendor  also  offered  cut  up   plates so  you  could  make  your  own  words--by  the  time  I  got  there  the  E's  were  gone--had  to  improvise  with  the  backward  3's.   (wish  I  would  have got  more)

 

 

 

I  picked  up  a  couple  of  these  printer's  trays  and  of  course  the  cool  hardware  and  I  LOVE  those  alphabet  printer's stamps.   I  wasn't  sure  what  those  black  handles were  that  you  see  on  the  right,  and  the  man  told  me  that  they  were  handles  to  printer's  trays.    And  that's  where  my  newest  art  comes  in.

 

 

 

 

 

....some  more  of  that  hardware  again--but  I  made  it  a  little  more  whimsical  by  painting  it  and  adding  this  fun  knob  that  I  found  at  Hobby  Lobby...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So--it's  good  to  be  back  'home'  in  more  ways  than  one!

 

Now--it's  time  to  get  serious--I  now  know  my  show  schedule  (they're  all  listed  on  my  sidebar--the  most  I've  ever  done--Yikes!!--a  little  scary,  but  I  can't  wait!)

Scatter Love

That's  what  I  naming  my  latest  painting  (for obvious  reasons).   In  the  middle  of  all  of  my  circus  art  from  last  week,  I  just  had  the  urge  to  stop,  get  out  my  paints,  pens,  and  oil  and  chalk  pastels--and  just  start  playing  around  on  a  10  x 20  canvas.

 

 

 

 

I  started  it  not  really  knowing  what  my  plan  was,  but  as  I  kept  going--it  kind  of  told  me  what  to  do--I  guess  all  you  have  to  do  is  listen  to  your  muse--and  the  next  thing  she  told  me  was  to  use  one  of  my faces  that  I  recently drew  in  my  sketchbook--

 

 

 

I  drew  her  when  were  driving  to  Disney,  and  I  Really  liked  how  she  came  out--I  knew  that  I  would  be  using  her  in  my  art  in  some  way  or  another--so  I  printed  her  image  out  on  to  a  dictionary  page--

 

 

....loved  including  her  in  my  latest  piece--

 

 

I  have  to  say  that  my  first  love  is  definitely  painting!

 

But  I'm  putting  my  art-making  on  hold  for  a  second  time,  because  we're  going  away  again--but  this  time  only  for  a  few  days--but  a  very  exciting  few  days.  We  are  headed  for  the   Springfield  Antique  and  Flea  Market  Extravaganza --this  is  a  Pinterest  link,  and  it  has  some  great  photos  of  the   market.   This  show  is  listed  as  one  of  top  ten  flea  markets  to visit  with  over  2500  vendors  all  in  one  location--about  an  hour  away  from  Columbus,  Ohio.   We've  never  been  there  before,  but  it  looks  VERY  promising,  and  I  can't  wait!!

A Storybook Circus

Wow!  It's  been  a  while  since  I  blogged---I've  been  busy!   We  had  such  a  good  time  at  Disney  and  boy  did  that  week  sure  go  fast.   Disney  World  is  such  a  wonderful  place,  and  apparently  about  a  million  other  people  think  the  same  thing, because  I  swear  that's  how  many  people  were  there!   But  in  spite  of  the  crowds--we  still  enjoyed  ourselves  and  the  wonderful  weather!   It  was  so  good  to  be  in  warmth  and  see  lots  of  sun--both  of  which   have  been  lacking  around  here  until  we  came  back.   I  think  we  brought  it  back  with  us,  because  it's  finally  starting  to  feel  like  Spring  around  here!!

 

So  when  I  was  at  Disney,  I  picked  up  a  'few'  souvenirs,  and  when  I  was  in  Fantasyland  mostly  for  children, (but  still  magical  for  everyone)  I  purchased  a  mug  from  their  new  Storybook  Circus  area.   Fantasyland  is  undergoing one  of  the  largest  renovations  in  Disney's  history--it's  just  awesome.   They  even  built  a  new  castle--the  Beast's  castle  from  Beauty  and  the  Beast.   

But  back  to  the  mug--coffee  in  it-- in  my  studio--

 

 

 

....and  that  bottle/lamp  thing  next  to  it  I  found  at  a  flea  market  in  Daytona--we  went  to  visit  our  son  who's  just  recently  moved  there,  and  we  saw  the  flea  market,  and  I  can't  pass  up  a  good  flea  market  no  matter  where  I  am.

I'm  actually  not  a  big  fan  of   going  to  the  Circus--but  I  Really  Really  enjoy  making circus  art!

 

I   have  to  thank  Disney  World  for  giving  me  this  spark  for  some  new  art--

 

 

 

It  was  nice  to  get  back  home  and  back  to  my  studio,  but  maybe  I  should  go  back  to  Disney  for  some  more  inspiration   ; )
