My Weekend

I hope everyone  enjoyed  their Mother's Day weekend.  Last year on Mother's Day, I was in the Lilac Festival, but this year , for some reason,  (and I'm thanking God for this one) they're starting it a week later. On Saturday, both here and Rochester, there was a high wind warning and later rain, of course. And yesterday morning in Rochester (I checked their weather--this is the time of year when I go into my weather obsession mode-- when I start doing outdoor shows) it was in the lower 30's with light snow. So, needless to say, I'm glad that they changed the weekend.

I just basically stayed home and went into "production" mode for next weekend.  This happens all the time --I know I have a show coming up, but I still take my time, you know,  just enjoying the process of art making, but now I have to start "working"--but don't get me wrong,  I love my "job"!!!

So this is what I did this weekend, I did this mirror (boy, it's hard trying to get a good photo of a mirror)--

I've been finding these jewelry embellishments at Michael's for the last couple of months that are on clearance. Everytime I go there, I'll pick up a few. They still have a good amount left. I just added color to these with alcohol inks to match the piece.

Metal washers make really good flower centers!

And I finished my box--

Inside and out.

And I started this--

I'll post this again later when I finish it.

So as you can see, I had to "work" this weekend, and I was as happy as a clam!  My daughter and son-in-law did treat us on Saturday to  lunch at a local family restaurant with great food.   And I figured as long as I was out that I would hit some garage sales even though the weather was horrid--and I'm glad I did--look what I picked up--

Three cupboard doors for a grand total of 50 cents!

I'm sure those cabinet doors will be transformed into beautiful pieces of art before too long. I love the mirror and the table with the lilacs.

We had chilly, windy weather out here for Mother's Day. But it was still good.

The jewelry accents really make your pieces so special, Diane! Can't believe you said the 'snow' word!!! We had high winds too, and each of the neighbors on both sides of us lost trees. We stayed in - safe and snug! Good luck with the show this coming weekend! Hugs, Terri xoxo

Everything is so beautiful, Diane! You've done a fabulous job. :) Sorry you actually had snow yesterday - my husband tells me that sometimes it even snows in upstate NY around Memorial Day! As it was, we had frost warnings here in CT last night. I just need a little constant warmth! Theresa

Your box turned out beautiful... I like how you did the inside of it too. I've been struggling with what to do on the inside. Your mirror is quite lovely and I love how you are finishing the magazine table.

You had me at metal washers. Then the 50 cent doors are simply the best find of the week, I'm sure. Great canvases. In my head, I can see an original Diane on those doors.

Glad you had a nice lunch. It's cold and nasty here today. Good thing the art show was over the weekend, because I am snug in my floor length nightgown today. I'm not even going to dress, I'm too warm. I have nothing but sleeveless tops and shorts in my wash until today! What a change. Hope the Lilac Festival is warmer this weekend.

Hi Dianne..thank you for your kind comments on my blog. I love your artwork. This week I am in Colorado and am seeing lilacs. Having spent my life in the south and never being in the right place at the right time, I have never seen lilacs blooming in the spring. What a treat, like your piece.

A lot accomplished, such a great mirror, great additions to the inside of the box, a surprise for the person who opens it to find other things. And Wow those doors a great bargain and just want you like best to start a nice piece of art work.

I remember trying to secon guess the buyers at a show, remembering the show before people wanted farm scenes and watery looking paintings
So I would do some of those, but the next show people wanted bright sunny florals. I think just doing what one does best and feels like doing is the best.

Have you used the inks on dominos?the new domios that are glossy white. The ink loves them.
