Guest Designer Over At Stencil Girl Products

See Me in Cloth Paper Scissors!

A  great  early  Christmas  present  for  me--I'm  published  in  the  upcoming  issue  of  Cloth Paper Scissors!

This  is  the  first  time  that  I've  been  in  this  magazine,  which  is  such  a  thrill  for  me--to  be  included  with  the  other  artists  in  this  issue--some  of  which  have  been  my  MY  inspiration. 

And  Thank  You  Cloth  Paper  Scissors  for  presenting  my  art  piece exactly  how  I  would  have  done  it--it  was  a  pleasure  creating  this  piece.

You  can  find  the Jan/Feb  issue  in  stores  starting  in  2016---love  starting  my  year  out  this  way!

New Painting--Layer by Layer

This  was a  fun  one,  and  I'm  glad  I  decided  to  take  photos  of  the  process....

Started  out  with  a  12 x 18  birch  cradle  board--

 Lots  of  paint,  then  spritzed  with  water  and  blotted  up  for  making  that  depth  and  texture

......more  paint,  and  then  I  got  out  my  corrugated  cardboard  and  Catalyst  texture  tool 

for  some  mark-making

 ....and  this  is  when  I  get  lost  in  the  process  with  stencils, more  paint,  stamps, more  stencils, etc., etc.--and  also  using  that  extra  paint  to  make  some  papers  for  future  collage

loving  those  layers.....

....drawing in  my  composition--looking like  a  hot  mess  right  now.....

time to cover up some of that busy background--

..with  some  elephant  love...

in  the  sunshine.....

This  is  a  great  way  to  warm  up  and  play  with  paint,  and  not  worry  about  the  outcome,  because  after  all,  it's  just  paint,  and  you   can  always  cover  it  up.....or  not.....

And  for  all  of  you  in  the  U.S.--hope  you  have  a  Happy  Thanksgiving!

More Art Play

Making  LOTS  of  art  here--another  show  coming  up  next  weekend  in Canton,  Ohio--Christkindl  Markt 

It's  a  very  nice  holiday  show,  and  I'm  really  looking  forward  to  being  a  part  of  it.

 

Yes,  I've  been  playing  a  LOT--always  a  busy  time  of  year  for  me.

    I  hope  everyone  had  a  Happy  Halloween--we  sure  did.   And  next  thing  you  know,  Thanksgiving  will  be  here!

New Art--Start to Finish

I  had  a  great  show  these  last  2  weekends--very  busy--not  much  time  to  make  any  new  art.  Needless to  say,  I  missed  my  art  room,  playing  with  paint--just  playing.  So  it  felt  good  to  do  just  that.   Here's  the  outcome  of  my  latest  playtime--

....now let  me  back  up  and show  you  the  transformation  of  this  once  old,  shabby,  dirty,  forgotten  cupboard  door....

first  step--add  some  book  pages  in  the  center  of  the  door--

... then  adding  some  Golden  fluid  acrylics Yellow  Ochre  and  Indian  Yellow  Hue (one  of  my  favorite  color  combinations)  to  the  sides  and  inside  lip  of  the  center--next--

....taking  those  same  colors  plus  some  Titan Buff  and  painting  over  the  text,  but  making  sure  not  to  completly  cover  it--I  like  the  texture  that  the  text  gives

Now  it  was  time  to  get  out  papers  that  I've  been  painting  (a  lot  of  them  were  from  my  workshop  that  I  taught  back  in  September)--

  

and  I  made some  new  textured  ones  too--

I  used  these  papers for  the  'frame'  of  the  piece--

I  don't  always  start  with  the  frame  of  the  door  when  I  do  these.  Sometimes  I  make  my  main  image  first,  which  helps  me  determine  how  I  want  to  do  the  frame.   But  this  time,  it  was  the  other  way  around--the  frame  told  me  what  colors  to  use  for  the  focal  point  of  the  piece.    Next,  was  the  main  image  with  some  more  paper  play--

And  then  back  to  my  favorite  paints--Golden  Fluid  acrylics  and  a touch  of  Prisma  NuPastels  
(a  hard  chalk  pastel--love  working  with  these)

so  happy  with  the  texture  and  layers  of  this  piece--

I  really  enjoy  working  on  these  cupboard  doors  that  I  find  at   flea  markets  and  garage  sales--found a  bunch  at  the  Springfield  flea  market  too!

Painting Furniture

I  haven't  done  this  in  a  while,  but  when  I  saw  this  table  at  the  Springfield  flea  market  a  couple  of  weeks  ago,  ideas started  going  through  my  head--

I   forgot  how  fun  it  was  to  transform  a  plain  piece  of  furniture  into a one  of  a  kind  art  piece.

Luckily  I  picked  up  a  bench  too  at  the  flea  market--and,  as  you  can  see,  I  knew  exactly  what  I  could  do  with  it--

.......with  my  sketches  on  it-- a  neighborhood--

......of  fun  houses.....

And  then  I  did  what  I  always  do--used  my  art  for  some  new  art--

All  of  this  is  going  with  me  next  weekend  for  my  show--Christmas  in  the  Woods  in  Columbiana,  Ohio--very  fun--love  this  show!
