Hi everyone--I made it back after an 8 hour drive today, and all I know, is that I need some R & R after this vacation! I am tired! We packed in a lot in just 3 days. So we were here about 6 years ago, so we tried to go to places that we hadn't been to yet. And one of the places was the Statue of Liberty, because it was closed last time due to 9/11. It was still very hot when we went, so the boat ride over felt good, and we were able to get great shots of the New York skyline--
This is my son, Nick, the New Yorker--he's doing so well and is so happy. He LOVES New York and we had such a good time.
There's nothing like being up close and personal with Lady Liberty, and did you know that they had to replace the torch? (I'm not exactly sure when), basically because it was falling apart. They have the original inside the pedestal building that she stands on.
We weren't able to go to the top (6 month wait list), but we went up to the top of pedestal building that she's standing on, and got a great shot of her--
And you can't go to New York without experiencing Times Square--
or Central Park
Or Grand Central Station
And a ride on the subway--
And of course, the Late Show with David Letterman!
This was a Very, Very fun experience--we LOVED it!!
And it's nice when your son is friends with the head pastry chef at a restaurant in New York (who, BTW had appeared on the Today show and the Food Network), and let us sample some of his speciality desserts along with the ones we chose--
I have no way of explaining how delicious all of these desserts were!
And you never know who you'll see in New York!
His hair was in his face--I had to brush it out of the way--you don't want to cover up that beautiful face!
And of course I had to go to the MoMA--I'll show you pics of that in my next post--Wonderful art experience!!

LOve all the pictures...never been there...maybe one day!
Looks like you had a great time. Love your photos--especially "Johnny" and those pastries--I'm hungry!!
So many memories of New York. Looks like you hit all the highlights. I never did the Letterman show, not even sure he was on TV when I was in NYC, but I sure loved the pictures of the Statue of Liberty.
In the early 1980s, I contributed each year to the restoration of the statue, and went to see it in 1986 when it reopened July 4 weekend. It was during that same restoration that the lamp was replaced with the new one. It was not unusual to see the statue encased in scaffolding in the early to mid 80s, since it was quite a long term project. At the time of the opening, there was a four day wait to get to the statue by ferry. If you owned your own boat, you could go whenever you wanted to. The day I went, it took over four hours to reach the top, then it was a very quick view from the crown and back down we went. It was like herding cattle and to say I was disappointed was a huge understatement. However, now I look on the experience and rejoice that I was actually able to get to the crown. Thanks for letting me babble about this really special post and memory from NYC.

Thanks for the comment, Diane. You asked about tips for using Glimmer Mist. The best tip I can give you is to spray it over a finished piece, because once you add any type of medium over it, you will loose the beautiful shimmer effect it gives. I absolutely love GM, and use it on almost everything ~~ canvas, wood, journal pages, you name it. However, it doesn't work well on cards, as it curls the cardstock somewhat. Break it out, try it and let me know what you think. Wishing you a Happy 4th, Diane!
those are great photos...what fun! NYC is on my bucket list for sure...so nice you were able to visit with your son...and i hope you told johnny to keep his hair out of his face!!
xo
Hi Diane, Your trip looked like a lot of fun I have never imagined how big the statue of liberty was until you showed the picture of the torch that is huge!.great photos, Enjoy your weekend!!! Sincerely,Jonny
Hi! Loved your NYC pictures! I was in NYC at the same time, but due to poor planning, and car trouble I didn't get to do nearly as much as I'd wanted. My drive was 2x yours, as I drove from Jacksonville, FL to NYC and back....can't wait to go back! Next time you go, check out The Ink Pad in NYC. Its an awesome little store
