The Month of March--Creatively Speaking

WOW--what  a  difference  a  month  makes!  By  now,  we  all  know  about  the  COVID-19  virus,  and  I  know  that  anyone  reading  this  knows   to  STAY  HOME!--enough  said--the  internet  has  been  flooded  with  what's  going  on.   So  for  now,  we  need  to  find  diversions  and  adapt  to  life  as  it  is  for  the  time  being.  My  diversion  and  also  my  therapy  is  art,  and  I'm  so  happy  for  that!    That's  what  this  blog  is  all  about--art  making,  and  let  me  tell  you  that's  what  has  been  occupying  my  time--no  more  talk--here's  what  I've  been  up  to--

I  have  piles  and  piles  of  scraps  of  my  painted  papers--I'm  not  going  to  let  them  go  to  waste--

and  here's  what  I  did  with  them--

with  the  help  of  embellishments,  and also  a  plain  IKEA  mirror.   Still going  with  the  papers,  I  reversed  a  6 x 12  cradle  board  to  turn  into  a  shadowbox--

and  still  more--another  paper  mosaic--

I  love  the  look  of  tile  mosaics--this  is  my  version

After  a  while  though,  I  need  to  get  out  my  paints  and  paint.  So  that's  what  I  did  on  a  wood  cigar  box--

some  more  poppies!

Changing  gears--as  I  was  saying  in  my  last  post,  I  now  have  time  to  'clean'  my  house,  which  always  turns  into  more  of  a  discovery  of  'art  supplies' and  I  get  side-tracked  from  my  cleaning--some  new  assemblage  art  came  out  of  my  house  cleaning--

Circus  time!

my  favorite  kind  of  art--you'll  never  see  me  at  an  actual  circus--but  I  LOVE  circus-themed  art  

every  good circus  has  a  fortune  teller--right?

So  when  I  made  this  circus  art  is  when  the  quarantine  started,  and  that's  when  I  decided  to  get  out  my  Strathmore  mixed  media  journal  that  I  got  back  in  December.   I  have  time  for  it  now  and  I  want  to  go  back  to  making  my  journal  faces  again  which  I  used  to  do  years  ago--just  for  me  with  no  critiquing--whatever  comes  out  on  the page is  what  comes  out--

Okay,  I  know  this  is  a  bit  lengthy,  but  it's  been  a  looong  month  at  home--so  more  painting  to  show  you--

along  with  paper  mosaics--

and  that  brings  us  to  here--the  end  of  March--on  a  sad  note,  we  were  planning  to  leave  in  a  couple  of  days  to  visit  our  son  in  Florida,  and  also  going  with  us  was  going  to  be  my  daughter  and  her  husband  and  my  grandson  --we  were  going  to go  to  Disneyworld  :-(  

Better  times  will  be  coming  and  when  they're  here,  we  will  be  making  that  trip!

I  hope  I've  inspired  you  to  take  some  time  for  yourself  and  do  what  makes  you  happy--no  matter  what  it  is--it  (without  a  doubt)  makes  a  difference!

Table Painting

I  don't  do  this  as  often  as  I  would  like  to--paint  furniture--in  this  case  2  very  different  tables  that  I  found  at  flea  markets.  The  first  one  was  one  of  my  favorites  to  find--

a  typewriter  table--definitely  a  memory  from  the  past.  I  love  finding  these  tables  and giving  them  a  new  life--

Next--

a  sewing  machine  table--I  gave  it  some  color--

And  then  I  took  my  new  art  and  repurposed  that  on  to  a  cigar  box--

This  is  definitely  my  favorite  way  of  making  art--taking  those  forgotten  items  from  the  past  life,  give  them  a  facelift  and  bringing  them  back  out  into  the  world  again.

Recycled Art With a Function

That's  what  I've  been  doing  these  days--taking  my  art  and  making  some  new  art  from  it.  A  couple  posts  back  I  talked  about  my  latest  poppy  painting,  but  I  didn't  stop  there--I  made  another  one--

 

 

And  since  I  had  another  show  to  get  ready  for,  I  decided  to  do  more  with  these  poppies,  and  something  that  I  knew  would  appeal  to  shoppers--

 

 

 

What  else?--but  a  mirror--always  a  favorite  of  the  customers.   But  I  didn't  stop  there  with  these  pretty  flowers--

 

 

.....a  new  box--not  only  are  these  art  pieces,  but  like  the  post  title  says--they  have  a  function  to  them,  which  people  appreciate.

 

So  then  I  went  back  into  my  'archives'  of  art  and  found  this  piece--

 

 

.....thinking  about  a  mirror  again...

taking  little  snippets  and  making  a  new  scene...

 

 

 

--and  even  the  sun  is  from  another  art  piece  of  mine  that  I  made  a  while  back.

 

So  I  took  all  of  those  pieces  with  me  this  last  weekend  to  my  show,  and  I'm  happy  to  say  that  they  all  SOLD!   Even  these  2--

 

 

 

So  happy  to  know  that  these  have  all  found  their  homes.

 

NOW--time  to  get  back  to  my  studio--one  more  show  for  this  season!

Some More French Country

I'll  call  this  post  part 2  of  my  French  Country  art--all  thanks  to  these  papers  from  Graphic 45.

 

 

How could  you  not  love  these?!   These  are  what  inspired  me  to  make  some  more  canvases--

 

 

started  out  by  painting  some  more  sunflowers,  and  then  'framed'  them  in  these  very  cool  papers--

 

 

 

Next--a  new  sunface--

 

 

 

...shining  down  on  some  more  sunflowers  and  a  rooster...

 

 

 

And  I  did  what  I  always  do  when  I  love  what  I'm  making--

Zoie!--enjoying  her  summer.   She's  going  to  be  meeting  her  little  cousin  in  less  than  2  months--we're  all  very  excited  here!

My Whimsy Houses III (with help from Graphic 45)

I  LOVE   making  these  houses!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And  I  have  to  give  credit  to  Graphic  45's  latest  papers--"A  Ladies  Diary"--

 

 

 

They've  outdone  themselves--these  papers  are  gorgeous!  And  I  used  this  vintage  book for  the text  faces  of  my  angels--I  thought  it  was  fitting  for  the  papers. 

 

So....I  didn't  stop  with  the  houses--I  kept  going--with  a  mirror--

 

 

 

....and  a  box...

 

 

 

...wonderful  vintage  feel  to  these  papers--and  they're  all  going  with  me  tomorrow.   I've  been  whipping  these  things  out  so  fast----I  guess  I  work  well  under  pressure.   This  is  my  biggest  show  of  the  year,  and   I  love  it!!  The  weather's  looking  okay,  but  at  this  show,  it  really  doesn't  matter--it's  a  good  one!!
