Another One For My Journal and For My Etsy

So  last  week  I  was  reading  my  latest  issue  of  Somerset  Studio,  and  I  saw  this  ad (Paper  Whimsy)  with  an  image  of  a lady  that  I  Really  liked.   And  I  wanted  to  draw  her!   So,  I  got  out  the  fearless  journal  (because  there's  no  such  thing  as  messing  up  in  a  journal!)  and  I  did! 

I  remembered  what  I've  read  and  been  told  by  different  online  artists.   Don't  think  of  what  you're  actually  drawing--just  look  at  the  individual  shapes,  sizes,  and  angles,  and  it  seemed  to  help.  I  struggle  with  the  3/4  view,  and  I  was  pretty  happy  with  how  this  lady  turned  out  (my  "model"  is  on  page  19  of  the  Somerset magazine  if  you  have  it)

And  sticking  with  my  plan  of  using  different  art  supplies--I  finished  her  with  Conte  Crayons,  and  Derwent  inktense  pencils.   The  conte  crayons  are  really very  hard  chalk--easy  to  work  with--but  a  bit  messy--you  have  to  spray  a  fixative  over  it  when  you're finished  because  it  smears  onto  the  rest  of  your  work  and  pages.

I've  been   really  liking  my  journal  girls--so  much  so,  that  I  decided  to  turn  THIS ONE  into  an  art  piece!

I'm  really  happy  with  her  and  she's  now  in  my  Etsy  shop  HERE.  

I'm  really  beginning  to  like  this--this  journal  thing--I  think  I  have  a  bit  of  a  theme  going  on  with  my  journal  girls!

A New Face and A New Class!

And  no  paint  was  used  in  the  making  of  this  face  (or  hair  for  that  matter)--

I  used  my  Conte'  crayons  that  I  got  a  while  back  after  reading  about  these  on  people's  blogs.   They  were  highly  recommended,  so  naturally   I  had  to  get  them.   So  I  really  didn't  read  the  info  about  them  entirely  and  I  just  assumed  that  they  were  a  different  kind  of  crayon--silly  me.  They're  actually  pastels,  but  alot  harder,  so  not  as  much  dust,  and they  blend  beautifully.   And  if  you  want  to  take  some  off,  they  just  erase  with  a  kneaded  eraser.  So  you  definitely  have  to  spray  a  fixative  on  them  when  you're  finished.   I  also  used  some  of  my  colored  pitt  pens  for  color.  I  like  to  wet  them  with  the  paintbrush  for  a  watercolor  effect.

I  added some  of  my  style  with  the  crackle  paint  and  lace--

And  I  also  applied  some  of  the  techniques  that  I  learned  from  Christy's  She-art  class  on  the  sides  of  the  canvas--

And  see  those  butterflies?  I  used  my  new  Martha  Stewart  All  Over  the  Page  Punch--

This  is  the  neatest  little  gadget--punch  anywhere  you  want  on  the  page,  and  the  best  part--you  can  see exactly  where  you're  punching  when  you  flip  it  and  the  paper   upside  down.--so  if  you  wanted  to  make  a  pattern  on  your  paper  for  collage  or  as  a  stencil,  you  could!

And  I'm  very  excited  about  my  new  online  class  with  Jane  DesRosier,  better  known  as  Grittyjane--Portraits  and  Papers.   Jane  is  the  very  first  artist  that  I  found  on  the  internet  when  I  was  just  starting  with  mixed  media--way  before  I  ever  even  thought  of  having  a  blog.   I  think  I  actually  found  her  on  Ebay  first.   And  through  these  last  few  years,  her  art  has  evolved so   much.   I  didn't  think  she  could  possibly  get  any  better,  but  she  has--she  is  truly  an  inspiring  artist  and  a  very  sweet  lady.   And  she's  offering  what  she's  learned  by  teaching  portrait  skills  mixed  with  her  very  unique  collage  work.   I  think  the  art  that  she's  coming  out  with  right  now  is  my  favorite  so  far.  The  price  is  very  fair  too.   If  this  interests  you,  go  check  out   her  class --if  anything,  check  out   her  art--amazing!!
