New Painting--Start to Finish

I've  been  pretty  quiet  around  here  lately,  probably  because  I've  been  pretty  busy  around  here  lately--a  combination  of  Summer  arriving  (finally!)  and  art  show  season  (getting  ready!)  But  here's  a  quick  post  of  one  of  my  paintings  that  I  just  finished.

I  found  this  great old  cupboard  door  ( 18 x 30 inches)  at  a  flea  market.  I  never  find  them  often,  but  I  always  scoop  them  up  when  I  do.   Started  out  with  a  layer  of  gesso  and  then  painting  the  frame  work  of it--

…..seems  that  I  like  to  paint  a  really  big  rooster  at  least  once  a  year--

So  happy  with  this--I'm  enjoying  Summer,  but  also  love  taking  the time  away  in  my  art  room  to  paint, paint, paint!

Steps of My Latest Rooster Painting

This  is  just  a  short  post of  my  latest  painting  that  was  SO  much  fun  to  create.   A  few  years  ago  I  had  found  this  wood  board  at  a  flea  market.  It's  20 x 20  with  a  2  inch  raised  edge  on  3  sides--not  exactly  sure  what  it  was  meant  for,  but  for  me,  painting  on  it  was  the  thing  to  do.   My  first  step--

I  painted  the board  with  my  background  colors  adding  and  taking  away  and  a  little  stenciling.  This  is  the  warm-up  part  and  the  most  forgiving,  because  if  you're  not  happy  with  it--just  cover  it  up  with  more  paint.  And  then  I  added  the  row  of  paper  houses  across  the  bottom.

Next  came  my  rooster--

.....the  first  layer...

and  then  some  texture  and  more  collage--

Some  finishing  details  with  some  black  paint  to  define  the  edges  and  add  some  shading--

And  the  completed  piece--

This  piece  came  together  very  easily  for  me--no  struggling  on  this  one--most  likely  because  I  enjoy  painting  on  wood,  and  I  love  painting  roosters!  It's  always  better  when  you're  able to  do  what  you  love  most--whatever  it  is  :-)

Art Retreat at the Lake 2016

I  had  so  much  fun  teaching  at  the  2-day Art  Retreat  at  the  Lake  this  year  in  beautiful  Mayville,  NY  at  Chautauqua  Lake--the  setting  is  wonderful.   And  just  like  last  year  we  went  crazy  with  papers,  paint,  and,, stencils.

And  my  favorite  part is  how  each  person's  art  is  what  comes  from  inside  of  them--

A  great  group  of  ladies--very  diverse,  but  the  same  in  our  love  for  creating.

So  when  I  was  there,  here's  the  piece  I  was  using  to  demonstrate  on--

A  lot got covered  up--but  that's  okay  with  me--half  the  fun  is  playing  with  the  paint,  and  taking  your  time.  I'm  loving  the  end  result...

My  only  complaint  is  that  those  2  days  went  way  too  fast!

But  we'll  be  doing  this  again in  September 2017--you  can check  out  its  Facebook  page  HERE

Painting Furniture

I  haven't  done  this  in  a  while,  but  when  I  saw  this  table  at  the  Springfield  flea  market  a  couple  of  weeks  ago,  ideas started  going  through  my  head--

I   forgot  how  fun  it  was  to  transform  a  plain  piece  of  furniture  into a one  of  a  kind  art  piece.

Luckily  I  picked  up  a  bench  too  at  the  flea  market--and,  as  you  can  see,  I  knew  exactly  what  I  could  do  with  it--

.......with  my  sketches  on  it-- a  neighborhood--

......of  fun  houses.....

And  then  I  did  what  I  always  do--used  my  art  for  some  new  art--

All  of  this  is  going  with  me  next  weekend  for  my  show--Christmas  in  the  Woods  in  Columbiana,  Ohio--very  fun--love  this  show!
