29 Faces Day 28--A Giveaway!!

Well,  I   didn't  make   the 29  faces  in  February,  but  I  blogged  every day!  That  was  my  challenge  to  myself--I  think  it's  going  to  be  a  while  before  I  take  on  that  challenge  again  : )

But  during  this  month  I  hit  1000  flollowers  (wow--thank  you  guys!!)  And  because  of  that  and  me  coming  to the  end  of  this  challenge,  I've  decided  to  have  a  giveway--

 

 

 

She  was  my  favorite  face  that  I  made  this  month,  so  I  made  a  print  of  her  and  mounted  her  on  an  8 x 8  cradleboard  panel.

 

 

 

...did  my  little  'paint'over'  technique--even  with  the  poppies--so  now  she's  all  ready  to  hang  and  waiting  for  a  new  home.

29 Faces Day 27

My  latest  face  is  on  wood--one  of  my  favorite  substrates  to  paint  on--

 

 

She's  on  a  pine  board  that  my  husband  cut  down  for  me  into  the  shape  of  a  long  skinny  house.  I  made  these  'whimsy'  houses  last  year--and  I'm  planning  on  making  more....

29 Faces Day 26

Day  26--I'm  getting  there--this  wasn't  as  easy  as  I  thought--I'm  sure  a LOT  of  you  can  relate--it's  hard  to  stay  focused  on  one  subject  for  a  whole  month!   Well, for  today,  I  have  a  new  face--

I  used  a  photo  reference  for  this  one--I  found  the  face  on  Pinterest.  If  you  ever  need  ANY  type  of  inspiration--that's  the  place  to go  to.   As  a  matter  of  fact,  I  just  made  a  great  dinner  on  Sunday  from  a  recipe  that  I  found  on  Pinterest!   And  I'm  sure  I'm  not  telling  you  guys  something  that  you don't  know  already.

29 faces Day 25

Another  face  from  the  past--

 

 

 

She's  one  of  my  first  faces  that  I  ever  painted--it  was  3  years  ago--my  style  has  changed,  but  she's  still  one  of  my  favorites--my  first  Hippie  girl.

 

I  recycled  her  into  a  frame  and  matt--

 

 When  I  do  this,  I  print  out  the  image  on  to  a  heavy  cardstock,  and  then  I  put  a  layer  of  Golden's  matte  medium  over  it  which  creates  a  barrier.  That  way  I  can  add  bits  of  color  to  it  without  the color soaking  into  the  paper so  if  you  make  a  mistake,  you  can  easily  fix it.  The   print  was  a  bit  washed  out,  so  I  just  added  more  color  to it,  and  then  I  made  the  fun  'Hippie' matt to  go  with  her.

29 Faces Day 24

For  today's  face  I  went  back  to  collaging  my  own  art  again  (like  my  sunface  on  day 22).   I just  started  doing  this  (thanks to  Suzi  Dennis : ),  and  it's  my  newest  'thing'.   Whenever  I  start  a  new  technique,  that's  all  I  want  to  do--so  I  did  it  again.

 

I  drew  her  on  a  piece  of  watercolor  paper,  cut  her  up,  and  then  painted  the  squares......

 

 

 

 

......and  then  I  put  her  back  together.....

 

 

...on  a  canvas...

 

I  love  painting  these  little  squares  each  as  their  own  piece  of  art,  but  still  coinciding  with  the  other  pieces  just  enough  to  come  together  well.

So  here's  my  face  for  today--

 

 

Okay--so  I'm  stretching  it  a  bit  here-- I  didn't  create  this  one  myself--it's  actually  a  magazine  clipping  that  I  found  years  ago,  but  knew  I'd  be  using  it  someday--I'm  just  trying  to  be  a  little  creative  with  bringing  up  new  faces  everyday.

 

She's  a  part  of  this  WIP--

 

 

 

I  knew  just  what  I  was  going  to  do  with  this  piece--

29 Faces Day 22

This  face  was  very  fun  to  create.   I'm  a  subscriber  to  Suzi  Dennis's  you  tube  channel.   If  you're  an  art  journaler,  then  you  will  love her  videos--lots  of  techniques  and  very  fun  art  making.  I'm  really  not  into  art  journaling  that  much--but  I  still  enjoy  her  videos  very  much,  and  find  some  great  inspiration  (like  for  today's  face).   You  can  check  out  her  channel  HERE .    She  has  at  least  one  video  up  each  week.

 

So  this  is  what  I  did.   I  cut  a  piece  of  watercolor  paper  to  a  6 x 6 inch  size  and  I  drew  my face  on  it  (in  this  case,  it  was  a  sunface).   And  then  I  cut  up  the  paper  into  4  equal  squares.   I  took  each  piece  and  painted  it  in--let  me  just  show  you--

 

 

 

I  took  out  what  colors  paint  that  I  wanted  to use,  and  then  I  painted  each  square  individually.   Then  when  I  was all  finished,  I  put  them  back  together  (like  a  puzzle : )  on  to  a  6 x 6  canvas--

 

 

 

--very  fun--I'm  going  to  do this  again,  but  maybe  I'll  cut  up  the  pieces  in random  sizes--that  would  be  fun  too--I  like  putting  puzzles  together  : )

....my  latest  she  art  girl....if  you  know  Christy  Tomlinson,  then  you  know  all  about  she  art  girls.    I  took  her  first  she  art  class  2  years  ago,  and  her  second  one  last  year,  and  this  year  I'm  happy  to  be  taking  her  3rd  one  which  just  started  2  days  ago.  

 

Her  art  is  evolving  as  much  as  any  other  artist,  and  her  new  class  is  great--she  shares  everything  down  to the  last  detail  at  a  very  affordable  price.   You  can  check  out  her  class  HERE.

29 Faces Day 17

Yesterday  I  showed  you  the  start  of  my  new  face--

 

 

....but  let  me  back  it  up  a  little  bit,  and  show  you  before  I  even  started  the  face--

 

 

This  bell  is  from  my  Uncle  Carl's  bell  collection.  Last  December  he  passed  away  after  a  short  illness,  and  his  wife,  my  Aunt  Anna (aka Annie)  had  already  passed  some  years  ago.  So  my  cousins  have  decided  to  sell  his  house,  but  are  making  sure  that  everyone  in  the  family  can  have  some  of  their  belongings   which  made  up  their life.

 

My  aunt  was  an  avid  garage sale,  estate and flea  market  junkie--she  also  sold  at  the  local  flea  market.  And  I  think  my  uncle  got  a  teeny  bit  of  the  collecting  bug  from  her.   And  that's  how  I  got  this  bell.

 

And  after  some  investigating,  I  found  out  it's  either  a  telephone  ringer  bell  or  a  doorbell--I'm  going  with  the  telephone  ringer,  since  it's  only  about  5  inches  long.

 

Well  no  matter  what  kind  of  bell  it  WAS--it's  no  longer  that!

 

 

 

It's  now  a  Southern  'Bell'e  and  her  name  is  Annie  : )

 

I  think  she  would  put  a  smile  on  my  Aunt  Anna  and  Uncle  Carl's  face.

29 Faces Day 15

For  today's  face  I  brought  out  a  face  from  the  past.

 

 

But  that's  missing  the  point  of  this  challenge--the  challenge  is  to  come  up  with  a  new  one (or  a  WIP  one)  every  day,  and  that's  what  I  kind  of  did  with  her.

 

I  originally  called  her  my  garden  girl,  but  I  turned  her  into  a  gypsy,  and  put her  on  a  box--

 

 

 

And  whenever  I  do  this (print  out an  image  that  I  want  to  use  on  something  new),  I  always  repaint  the  image,  and  that's  what  I  did  with  her  face--the  image  becomes  washed out  when  you  adhere  it  with gel  medium,  and  adding  new  color  brings  it  back  to  life  again.

 

So  this  is  my  old/new  face  for  day 15.

29 Faces Day 14

Happy  Valentine's  Day  everyone!!

 

My  valentine's  face  is  from  my  new  'journal'.   I'm  not  much  of  an  art  journaler, so  this  one  was  perfect  for  me.

 

 

 

Art  Doodle  Love  by  Dawn DeVries Sokol--there  are  5  themed  chapters,  but  nothing  to  read--just  pages  of  color  and  random  marks  with  a  little  doodling  in  there--basically  a  jump  start  for  you  to  start  your  personal  art  journal.   And  there are  prompts  on  a  lot  of  the  pages in  there to  help  give  you  ideas  if  you  want  to  use  them--it's  up  to  you.

 

So  I  started  on  page  101, because  it's  the  page  that  spoke  to  me  first.

 

 

The  only  thing  that  was  on  this  particular  page  before  I  started  was  the  background color (every  page  already  has  a  color  wash  to  it  that  you  can  leave  as   is, or  add  more)  the  white  houses  with  script  on  them  and  this  quote  that  I  love.   I  added  the  rest--the  face,  some  color  and  some  stamping--I  could  have  added  more,  journaled  more,  etc, etc--but  you  get  the  point.

 

It's  a  fun  journal  of  sorts  and  every  page  is  different.  If  you're  like  me  and  hate  that  white  page--you  may  really  like  this  book.   I  haven't  tried  any  wet  medium  yet,  but  that's  my  next  thing  that  I'll try--we'll  see  how  that  goes--the  pages  aren't  super  heavy.

29 Faces Day 13

For  my  13th  face,  I  went  back to  my  day  8  face (because  I  liked  her  so  much),  and  did  the  framing  with  painted  matt  again.

I   now   have   2   finished   art   pieces   that   I probably wouldn't   have   had  if  it   wasn't  for  me  taking  up  the  29  face  challenge.   They'll  be  great  additions  for  my  upcoming  art  shows  this  summer  that  will  be  here  before  I  know  it!

So  these  faces  are  oldies  but  goodies,  and  I've  turned  them  into  an  all  new  piece  of  art.   They  started  out  here--

 

 

 

....on  a  table top  that  I  painted  a  little  over  2  years  ago.   The  piece  sold,  but  I'm  so  glad  that  I  took  photos  of  it.   I  got  a  close-up  of  the  sun  and  moon--

 

 

....printed  it  out  on  my  printer  to  the  size  I  wanted,  and  made  a  whole  new  little  art  piece  for  day #12--

 

 

 

These  2  are  now  on  a  6 x 6 gallery  wrapped  canvas--I  added  some  stamping,  and  embellishing,  and  finished  it  with  a  cool  little  knob  on  top.

Didn't  have much  time  yesterday,  so  I  limited  myself  to  a  half  an  hour  for  a  face.

 

 

 

she  was  done  with  graphite,  prisma  colored  pencils,  a  little  bit  of  pitt  pens,  and  a  smidgen  of  Golden  titan  buff  on  a  book  page,  and  some  crazy  and  fun  music  in  the  background--maybe  that  explains  her  wild  hair??

I  decided  that  I  wasn't  finished  with  my  Day #2  Face--I  really  liked  her  so  I  wanted  to  put  her  in  a  frame.   And  then  I  found  this  frame  with  that  plain  old  white  matt  in  it,   and  I  knew  that  it  wouldn't  do--so  I  turned  it  into  my  own  style--

 

 

 

I  think  she  needed  those  poppies--I  really  really  like  how  this  came  out!

 

Wow--I  can't  believe  it's  day  10  already,  and  I  haven't  stopped--wow!

29 Faces Day 9

My  face  for  today  is  from  my class  with Misty  Mawn.   This  week  it's  all  about  collage,  and  different  ways  of  adding  it  to  your  art,  and  in  this  case,  with  portraits.   Her  class  is  great  and  filled  with  tons  of  information,  techniques  AND  inspiration.   Every  week  she  features  several  different  artists--a  wide  variety  that  will  appeal  to  any  taste.    This  week  there  a few  that  really  stood  out  for  me--my  favorite  was  Christine  Peloquin--this  is  my  face  inspired  by  her--

  

....and  also  Misty  Mawn--an  awesome  teacher  and  very  gifted  artist.

29 Faces Day 8

Wow!  One  week  already  of  faces--time  seems  to  fly  even  in these  dreary  winter  months! 

 

For  today's  face I  went  back  to  my  bristol  paper  and  pastels--

 

 

 

 

I  was  going  for  the  Art  Deco  look (one  of  my  favorite  styles),  but  what  I  had  planned  did  not  work  out  at  all,  so  I  just  covered  up  my  'design'  with some  collaged  roses--anything  can  be  fixed!  Now  she  has  a  vintage  30's  look  to  her--and  I  like  it!

29 Faces Day 7

Today's  face  is of  a  different  sort--it's  a  porcelain  one--

As  you  can  see, I've  already  started  to 'dress'  her.  She's  been  in  my  collection  of  porcelain  doll  heads  for  a  couple  of  years  now--her  body,  long  forgotten,  but  fortunately, someone  knew  to  save  her  face  until  someone  came  along  to  rescue  her  and  bring  her  back  to life.   And  now  was  the  time  to  do  it!

I  gave  her  a  wooden  bobbin (I  think  that's  what  they're  called)  body,  and  dressed  her  with  vintage  lace  complete  with  some  jewelry,  and  pearls and roses  even  for  her  hair. 

Now  she's  in  her  new  home--

This  is  an  old  printer's  tray  from  the  early  1900's .  I  love  when  I  can  find  these,  and  it's  so  much  fun  hunting  for  those  little  pieces  that  belong  in  it.  In  this  case,  it's  her  new  home.

There's  a  kitchen--

and  extra  space  for  the  lady  of  the  house--

 I  Loved  putting  this  together!   I'm  having  fun  with  this  29  faces  challenge!

29 Faces Day 6

I  didn't  have  a  lot  of  time  yesterday,  so  this  was  a  quick  one.   I  started  out  with  graphite,  but  I  wanted  to  add  a  little  color, so I  went  back  to  my  pastels  (these  things  are  growing  on  me).

 

 

 

She's  done  on  bristol  paper--I've  had  this  paper  forever,  but  I've  never  used  it.  It's  nice  and  durable,  but  I  think  I  like  the  tooth  of  the  coldpress  watercolor  paper  better.

So  for  today's  face,  I'm  using  some  old  ones  and  making  them  new  again.  I  explained  this  more  in  This Post,  but  basically what  I  did  was  take  this  frame--

More  playing  in my  sketchbook.....

 

 

.....with  one  my  favorite  faces  to  paint,  and  around  here  we  don't  get  to  see  this face  that  often  at  this  time  of  year--just  snow  and  more  snow  and  more  snow  and....

 

And  I  used  one  of  my  favorite  mediums--Caran d'Ache water  soluble  crayons--love  the  control  you  can  get  with  them.

29 Faces Day 3

I  sketched  this  face  in  my  sketchbook, and  I  decided  to  go  with  pastels  again--I'm  liking  them,  but  I  don't  think  they'll  replace  my  love  of  acrylics.

 

 

 

I'm  glad  that  I  decided  to  do  this  challenge--now  I'm  wondering  what  'face'  will  I  bring  the  next  day.

29 faces Day 2

So  for  today,  I'm  showing  another  face that  I  just  did  with  hard  chalk  pastels--another  one  from  my  Misty  Mawn  class--

 

 

 

This  week's  lesson  was  all  about  pastels  and  different  ways  of  using  them.   I've  used  pastels  in  my  art  before  but  never  exclusively--I  like  them  in that  they're  a  very  forgiving  medium,  but  also  that  makes  them  a  little  frustrating,  because  if  you're  not  careful  you  can  mess  up  parts  that  you  like  by  smudging--so  they're  not  my  favorite  thing  to  work  with.....but....they  give  you  a  great  result.

 

I  like  her, and I think  I'm  going  to  do  something  more  with  her.   This  is  on  a  sheet  of  watercolor  paper--so  I  have  ideas  in  mind--if  they  work  out,  she'll  be back--we'll see.
